Lowestoft set to host Newmarket Town at the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium

"We have to be at it again on Saturday for this important FA Cup match."
- Blues boss Jamie Godbold

After a "really positive week" for Lowestoft Town FC, attentions now turn to the road to Wembley once more.

The Trawlerboys are gearing up for their fourth home game in 14 days today (Saturday) - with the FA Cup journey continuing.

Awaiting them in the Emirates FA Cup second qualifying round at the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium is Newmarket Town.

Following a 6-2 home success against Step 3 side Potters Bar Town in the last round, Jamie Godbold's men now host the Isthmian League north division side today - having already beaten The Jockeys 2-1 away in a pre season friendly in July.

This past week has seen The Trawlerboys collect three points in the Southern League Premier Central Division as they are now 17th in the table - yet remarkably just four points off fourth in a tight league.

After a narrow 1-2 home reversal over promotion favourites AFC Telford last Saturday, with Jake Reed on target in the second half, Lowestoft recovered from falling 0-2 behind against Royston Town on Tuesday.

Harvey Sayer's penalty in first half added on time was followed by midfielder Flynn Clarke's first goal for the club in the 56th minute before Sam Johnson sealed a superb 3-2 comeback win in the 67th minute.

Reflecting on everything, Blues boss Godbold said: "I think it's been a really positive week for us.

"We have proved we can compete with certainly one of the best teams in the division in AFC Telford.

"We were outstanding second half and we were unlucky not come away with anything from the game - on another day we could've taken the points.

"They are a team up the top of the table and sometimes you look at those games and think of a 1-0 smash and grab job, but I thought we were the better team.

"They had a couple of outstanding individual players and in terms of the goals conceded we switched off for the first one after the referee had given a free kick, while the second goal was down to individual brilliance.

"After that Luke Holt has not had a lot to do, we had all the ball and particularly in the second half we had control.

"The goal probably came 10 to 15 minutes too late, but even after Reedy scored we had chances and their keeper had to make a brilliant save from Harvey.

"Performance wise I was really, really pleased and while it was disappointing we showed how we can compete with the top sides and if we continue to do that we will win more games than we lose.

"On Tuesday we were 0-2 down but showed great character and resilience to battle back, pick up the win and a deserved three points.

"We were on the attack in their half for their first goal when Sam's ball forward takes a big ricochet and suddenly their striker is through one on one to score.

"The second goal is a mistake from Holty as it squirmed under him - he has not had many of them - and even then the ball has just managed to creep over the line.

"So the goals were disappointing to concede, but we kept going and got back into the game with a penalty on the stroke of half time through Harvey.

"That gave us momentum going into the second half and I felt there was only going to be one winner.

"It was a great performance and comeback backed by outstanding individual performances from Travis Cole and Louis MacIntosh who I felt were both excellent on the night.

"I think the three points were well deserved.

"It was great for Flynn to score his first goal for the club - he has been threatening that.

"He picked up an injury that kept him out of the last couple of games, but he came off the bench Saturday and started Tuesday.

"He is a fantastic player and we are lucky to have him.

"Harry Barbrook has settled in really quickly and looks right at home. He knows a few of the lads through Ipswich links and I think he has been a really important plus point for us.

"The levels of performance I have been particularly pleased with over the past few games.

"Maybe we did not get as many points as we deserved but certainly our group has learnt a lot of positives and shown we can compete with anyone.

"I think the squad has improved in terms of quality.

"With the individuals we lost at the back end of last season and pre season and the questions that we'd not signed anyone, I think it showed the key thing was remaining patient and making sure we got the right people in when they came along.

"The signing of Harry Barbrook is certainly a big one for us having started the last two games while Joao Rangel has came off the bench and has made a really positive impact.

"You can't go into a 42-game season and keep to the same starting 11 or squad and now certainly we have the challenge of keeping everyone happy.

"Owen Murphy missed out in midweek due to holiday, and he is away on Saturday.

"Rob Eagle has been carrying an injury, so we will assess him and see.

"This Saturday we host Newmarket in the FA Cup, who are a good side. We played them in pre season and I felt we were lucky to come away with a win.

"We've asked the players for consistency, and I feel over the past four games we've had that - now, we have to be at it again on Saturday for this important FA Cup match.

"We want to be in the next round of the competition, we are the higher league side and we have to be professional.

"We know they have players that can hurt you in their side, but we have that too in our dressing room and we have to show them our quality.

"It is a cup game where there is a financial reward, we have to approach it in the right frame of mind knowing a place in the next round of a national competition and another potential home draw is at stake - that is exciting.

"But we must make sure we focus on this game first and we have to be at it - come 5pm hopefully we will be pleased with the days work.

"There is the opportunity to name seven subs and after a light training session Thursday the games continue to come thick and fast at this level.

"We know we have to keep everyone happy with a bigger squad so we will have choices to make."
