Signs of improvement from Blues

Andrew Fisk was given the captain’s armband as he made his 400th appearance for the Trawlerboys against high flying Banbury United, and he led his team in a much improved performance which earned them a point.
With a bit more composure in front of goal it could so easily have been all three with the Puritans down to ten men for more than an hour.
Despite being goalless this was an entertaining game between two teams prepared to attack whenever possible.
Lowestoft were the first to threaten as Jake Reed fired a 20-yard free kick inches too high and shortly afterwards Travis Cole powered a header wide. Jacek Zielonka’s through ball saw Malachi Linton clear but as Jack Harding came out the striker fired high over the top.
Banbury too were looking lively going forward and posed the Lowestoft defence some problems and they came closest to breaking the deadlock when John Mills tricked his way into the area but his clever dink over Luis Tibbles hit the post and was cleared by Cole.
With 33 minutes gone Miguel Lopez’s strong tackle won the ball but Gedeon Ikito reacted by kicking out at the Lowestoft player and received a straight red card.
Although Lowestoft dominated possession in the second period the Puritans defended well and in fact were first to threaten but Jamai Gordon fired over from 10 yards.
A good run by Marcus Wilkinson ended with Linton’s shot crashing against the crossbar. Further Lowestoft pressure saw Linton again go close but a bobble sent the ball wide.
Banbury were by no means out of the game and continued to look dangerous on the counter and Luis Tibbles had to be alert to save from Mills, who was ploughing a lone furrow up front.
Jack Wilkinson and Dylan Williams both had efforts blocked as Lowestoft searched for that all important breakthrough goal but it was the visitors who again came nearest. Mills was fouled just outside the area but Giorgio Rasulo saw his free kick clip the top of the Lowestoft crossbar.
As added time came to an end there was one last chance for the Trawlerboys but Lopez’s drive was deflected wide.
