urner nets Five as Lowestoft go top,

Bethany Turner was the star of the show as she scored five in a 7-0 win for Lowestoft Town away to FC Viking Valkyries.

On a weekend where the majority of the league were in Cup action, Lowestoft had the chance to go top for the first time this season if they could get three points.

The fixture an awkward one, the quality disparity in the female game means you occasionally get fixtures where you know the outcome before a ball is kicked which makes it unenjoyable for all involved.

Lowestoft with their array of previous title winning talent and 100% record so far this season, lined up against FC Viking Valkyries pointless to date following their promotion to Division One.

There was nothing to gain for Lowestoft, they had 100% pressure on them, they had to navigate a fixture, collect three points in truly a no win, everything to lose situation.

The game, played on the Sprowston recreation field kicked off 24 minutes later than originally timetabled due to having to wait for another match to finish. This added to the intrigue of how this task could be navigated.

The first half saw five Lowestoft Town goals as Beth Turner opened the scoring before Hazel Saddington and an own goal made it three.

Turner completed her Hat Trick this side of the interval to give the Trawler Girls a resounding Half Time lead.

The second half with the game long since won saw the Trawler Girls add two more, both from Beth Turner to complete a top day for the striker scoring five of the seven goals.

Three points bagged and top of the league, due to the magnitude of the favourites tag Lowestoft had for the game, its one where you can take few justified positives.

Manager Iain Spoor will be thrilled with the form of Beth Turner as well as the Lowestoft debut of Marcie Prettyman who looked bright throughout.

Job done and thoughts now turn to a huge trip to Costessey Sports on Sunday. Get a victory there and Lowestoft can firmly believe they can win the league this season and with Beth Turner in outstanding form it is very much possible.
