Lowestoft Town Ladies v Sprowston Ladies

Paul Whitlow9 Oct - 18:41

Report by Darrell Allen

Mia Rose maintained her 100% goalscoring record with the second goal in a comfortable 2-0 win for Lowestoft over Sprowston at Crown Meadow on Sunday.
The start of a bumper October for the Trawler Girls with four tough fixtures that will test their credentials for the season began with the visit of highly regarded and respected Sprowston.
Manager Iain Spoor had a strong squad for the game with 16 players available but without a game for three weeks it was set to be a very tough fixture.
Sprowston, who routinely compete at the top end of the division each year, set up well with a strong defence and midfield which largely frustrated Lowestoft in a very cagey and goalless first half with little action of note. Sprowston were very much the happier team at the interval.
Second half was a different story with one way traffic throughout and Sprowston being able to barely get out of their half. Lowestoft still found it hard to break through as Sprowston goalkeeper Jade Knight was in outstanding form.
The breakthrough eventually came on 67 minutes when Beatriz Silva produced a stunning open from distance to give the Trawler Girls the lead.
Mia Rose, who has been an early star of the season for Lowestoft made it three goals in three games just three minutes later to make to double the advantage and put the game beyond Sprowston.
It was a well deserved win for Lowestoft who continue their 100% winning start to the season.
The Trawler Girls are back at Crown Meadow this Sunday when they welcome University of East Anglia in Round 2 of the Norfolk Women and Girls League Cup before league trips to FC Viking Valkyries and Costessey Sports later in the month.
October, a month that provides challenge and opportunity and one that the squad and management team are relishing, it has certainly got off to the perfect start.
