Saddington at the Double in Cup success

Hazel Saddington scored her first goals for Lowestoft Town with a brace in a 3-1 victory over University of East Anglia on Sunday.

After an opening day league success against the same opposition by the same scoreline just 5 weeks ago, the teams met again on Sunday in Norfolk Women and Girls League Cup action.

The Trawler Girls had won their first round match 2-1 at Mulbarton Development thanks to a brace from Mia Rose.

Another tough draw was handed down by the league committee pairing the Trawler Girls with University of East Anglia in a home tie at Crown Meadow.

UEA had just 3 of the 11 starters from that opening day league fixture. With the term now fully underway they represented a much tougher proposition this time around.

However a strong Lowestoft team rose to the challenge, it was one way traffic first half but it took until the stroke of Half Time for Hazel Saddington to put Lowestoft in front. In reality it should have been 4 or 5 in a dominant but wasteful first half.

The Trawler Girls rare sloppiness allowed UEA to get an equaliser just after the interval but they didn't dwell on it long.

Bethany Turner put the Trawler Girls back in front with a fine strikers finish on 57 minutes for her first goal of the season.

Saddington added her second and Lowestoft third on 77 minutes.

It was another comfortable win for Lowestoft who should have won by more.

Manager Iain Spoor will be delighted that his team have won every game so far with still so much more potential to display.

Other positives from the afternoon saw a debut from Millie Rose and the return to action of Lucy Eagle after a few matches recovering from concussion.

Once all the players are firing this team represents a terrifying opposition for anyone to face.

The Trawler Girls are back in League action this Sunday with a trip to FC Viking Valkyries, Lowestoft will be strong favourites but will need to show the right attitude and application to overcome this away day assignment with three points.
