Lowestoft Town U18s begin their competitive 2026/27 campaign tonight as Downham Town U18s visit Crown Meadow in the Preliminary Round of the FA Youth Cup.

The FA Youth Cup is the biggest cup competition at U18 level and has provided many memorable occasions throughout the history of Lowestoft Town. Tonight, a new generation of Young Trawlerboys will have the opportunity to represent the badge under the lights at Crown Meadow.

Pre-Season Preparation Complete

Tonight’s fixture follows five productive weeks of pre-season for the club’s U18 and U19 groups.

The players have completed six fixtures alongside a demanding programme of training, analysis, physical preparation and recovery. They have faced a variety of opposition, including strong youth programmes and experienced senior sides, exposing the group to different challenges ahead of the competitive campaign.

The U18s’ final pre-season fixture came against US Sports Scholarships at Crown Meadow last Thursday. The group played really well and came out victorious setting themselves up nicely for tonight's fixture.

The players returned to their full-time programme on Tuesday, completing their final preparations and previewing tonight’s opposition.

A New Chapter for the Pathway

Tonight will also mark the beginning of an exciting new season for the Lowestoft Town player pathway.

The club launched its new Scholarship Programme during the summer, creating further opportunities for talented young players from Lowestoft and the surrounding region to develop through full-time education and football.

Scholars Luca Upton, Jack Trowbridge, Callum Lake, Bailey Sutton and Callum Kemp have already been officially announced, with more players set to be revealed over the coming weeks.

The programme is built around investing in our own, strengthening our community, developing people and creating opportunities. Tonight’s fixture represents the first opportunity for the latest group to begin writing their own chapter at the club.
