Two 'tough' away tests in space of four days for Trawlerboys

Two 'tough' away tests in space of four days for Trawlerboys

Busy spell of league games ahead for Lowestoft

After a busy spell of games in national cup competitions, league action is set to take centre stage with a hectic schedule ahead for Lowestoft Town.

The Trawlerboys face two long away treks in the space of four days in the week ahead during a run that is due to see eight Southern League Premier Central Division games being played between now and November 30.

With the games coming thick and fast, and injuries ravaging the squad, Blues officials swooped to sign two new players this week on loan deals.

After midfielder Flynn Clarke suffered a season-ending injury a few weeks ago, goalkeeper Luke Holt was also stretchered off last Saturday with a leg injury that led to an operation on Wednesday after he ruptured his patella tendon - which is likely to need six to nine months of recovery.

Defender Josh Hazell also requires a scan on a knee injury that has seen miss recent games.

Goalkeeper Danny Cullum joins Lowestoft on loan from Needham Market on a dual registration deal "for the next few games", while attacking midfielder Fin Whiteley has also joined on a month's loan from King's Lynn Town.

Both players made their debuts in an excellent 2-1 home win over Bishop's Stortford last Tuesday, with Harvey Sayer's penalty and Joao Rangel's late volley - his first goal for the club - sealing victory to move Lowestoft up to 17th in the table.

It saw The Blues bounce back from Emirates FA Cup disappointment, after lady luck eluded them in the 1-3 defeat in front of more than 1,100 fans at the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium last Saturday.

The loss of Holt to injury saw 16-year-old Jack Trowbridge - a late addition to the bench - making his senior debut, and after leading 1-0 at half time through Kyle Haylock's goal, teenager Trowbridge was seemingly fouled in the build-up to Weston-super-Mare's equaliser early in the second half - giving the higher league visitors the momentum to progress into the first round proper.

Godbold said two "very tough" away tests are now ahead - at third placed Stratford Town tomorrow, and a Tuesday night trip to 21st placed Hitchin Town.

Lowestoft will make the 370-mile round trip to 'Shakespeare's Theatre of Dreams' tomorrow as they head to the home of The Bards in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Stratford Town - who play at The Arden Garages Stadium - will be a tough proposition on their own turf, and Godbold said: "Stratford have started the season really well, they are right up there and it will be a very tough game."

A 250-mile round trip on Tuesday night then follows, as The Blues prepare to take on Hitchin Town.

The Hertfordshire-based side play at Top Field, Hitchin and The Canaries will host The Trawlerboys once more in a midweek evening game.

Blues boss Godbold said: "They are not far off us in the league and it will be another tough game - like they all are in this league."

A full catch up review of the past two games, new loan signings, injuries and a look ahead to the coming games with Blues boss Jamie Godbold will feature on this website tomorrow morning.
