Blues boss calls for supporters to 'get behind us' as Lowestoft look to 'bounce back' against Wroxham

'Our home form is absolutely crucial for the run-in'
- Blues boss Jamie Godbold

Lowestoft Town manager Jamie Godbold has urged his players to "bounce back and show character" as they approach a crucial run-in.

Bolstering their squad with the signing of Connor Deeks this week ahead of the final eight Pitching In Isthmian League North Division games, the Blues boss said it comes at a key time.

After going seven games unbeaten - with six victories - between January 23 and February 24, an injury-ravaged squad has just suffered back-to-back 2-1 away defeats.

Following the midweek loss at Ipswich Wanderers Lowestoft headed to Essex last Saturday intent on "bouncing back" but despite skipper Travis Cole's second successive goal late on, The Trawlerboys were defeated.

The two consecutive away defeats have now left Lowestoft ahead of Felixstowe & Walton United on goal difference in joint top position of the Pitching In Isthmian League North Division.

Lowestoft will be hoping for some home comforts tomorrow (Saturday) as they return to the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium and host The Yachtsmen - who are 12th with three games in hand.

With Lowestoft's final three home games to be played against the sides currently in second - Felixstowe & Walton United - on March 23, third placed Bury Town on April 1 and fourth placed Brentwood Town on April 27, it promises to be a fantastic finale.

Godbold said: "Last Saturday was an awful result for us.

"In terms of the game itself we were not at the races in the first half, and we gave ourselves a bit of a mountain to climb.

"Second half was lots better, but the damage had been done in the first half and it was a really disappointing day.

"That has left at the top of the table still, on goal difference now, but we are quite vulnerable with teams catching up.

"Now it is about bouncing back and showing character - we have eight cup finals to play and we're still in a good position.

"From a personal level, being in the stands Saturday (not on the touchline) was disappointing as it meant I could not be involved and in the dressing room.

"But I don't think it makes much difference to the players (on the pitch) and the levels shown.

"We had to start the game like our second half performance, and if we had done that then the result would've been different.

"But we gave ourselves too much to do.

"We did not settle on the 3G pitch and in the first half particularly I've not seen us pass the ball to the opposition as much as we did.

"When we turned round it was a lot better, but it was too late."

Godbold said that this week the physio's room had been "more busy than the training pitch" - but he was hopeful that there are some signs of recovery.

The Blues boss said: "Dylan Ruffles and Charlie Norman are both out for the season, Owen Murphy, Louis McIntosh and Adam Hipperson are all likely not to be fit this Saturday.

"Louis has a swollen ankle and he has been struggling since the Ipswich Wanderers game - he is probably 60-40 for Saturday, but had it been another week, I think he would be OK.

"Hippo has been struggling with foot and knee injuries. While he has managed to play through it over the past couple of weeks he is probably in need of a bit of a rest to get him back to 100 per cent.

"Sam Johnson - who has been out for two months - may be in contention, but we have to be careful with him.

"We now have four home games and four matches away to come - and we will be playing teams in and around us at home.

"So our home form is absolutely crucial for the run-in - and with that comes a plea to supporters to get down to the ground for what promises to be a key period.

"With four home games to go we are in a position at the top of the table where we've not been for a few years, and after two away losses it will be great to be back at home.

"Your support is vital - and with the games we have in the position we are in its a call to get behind us, as that gives us a lift.

"So please come down on Saturday and over the next month.

"Wroxham will be well organised, with attacking quality and we know it will be a really tough game.

"I think they are quite a unique side to play against in the way they play, sat deep and catching sides on the counter with the quality attacking players they have.

"Defensively they are strong, and the away game we played against them was very tough which was settled by two moments of brilliance from Harvey Sayer.

"They are at the stage of the season where they have nothing to lose and they will be coming out under no pressure which makes it more challenging.

"Obviously the players all know each other - with Josh Harvey and Ryan Hawkins in the Wroxham side, and Josh Hazell coming from Wroxham so I am sure there will be plenty to play for.

"We have to work hard, be professional, stick together and be tough to beat.

"Once we do these things in the game with the attacking players we have got we know we can score goals.

"It is about bouncing back and showing character now - we are still in a great position with eight cup finals to go."
