Trawlerboys set to clash with two of league's top three

Trawlerboys set to clash with two of league's top three

Mark Boggis23 Jan - 22:00

Lowestoft face high-fliers Maldon & Tiptree away and Waltham Abbey at home in next two games

Lowestoft Town will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing midweek defeat as they prepare to take on two of the Isthmian League North Division's top three sides in the space of a week.

After another fixture fell foul of the foggy conditions last weekend, The Trawlerboys home clash with Mildenhall Town at Crown Meadow last Saturday was abandoned after 47 minutes.

The game was held up for 15 minutes at the interval in the hope that conditions may improve, but with the weather worsening it was soon abandoned by official Mr R Baker on resumption.

Lowestoft were spared what could have been a third successive home defeat as Mildenhall led 1-3 at the time.

Ben Nolan gave the visitors a 14th minute lead before Lewis Dugdale hit his first goal for Lowestoft on his first start in the 29th minute.

The visitors responded with Jordan Nicholson (34) and Ryan Sharman (35) on target in quick succession to turn the game around.

But the goals will sadly be deleted from the record books after the match was brought to an early conclusion.

Following the abandonment, this home clash against Mildenhall from last Saturday has yet to have been rescheduled.

From the weekend's starting line-up, Lowestoft were without Josh Harvey - who has now returned to the USA to return to college for his sports scholarship - Harvey Sayer, Aaron Bullent and Harvey Peters for Tuesday's midweek trip to Takeley.

It meant returns to the starting line-up for Rio Abodunde, Rob Eagle, Henry Pollock and Connor Deeks.

A fifth change was also made as new loan signing Ethan Binnie made his debut in goal as Ben Self dropped to the bench.

Binnie has joined on a month’s loan from Norwich City's development sides, having had a spell at Cray Wanderers earlier this season.

A club spokesman said: "Ethan will add competition and experience to the goalkeepers group."

Lowestoft were forced into an early change after 24 minutes as Dugdale was injured and replaced by Sam Howell.

They were then stung by goals in the 35th and 45th minute as the hosts led 2-0 at the interval.

Substitute Self made a second half appearance outfield for The Trawlerboys, but it was another sub Balogun, for the hosts, who then hit an 11-minute hat trick for Takeley late on to seal victory as it ended in a deeply disappointing 5-0 defeat.

The results elsewhere over the past week have meant The Trawlerboys slipped from 17th to 18th position, with 19th placed Takeley now just three points behind with a game in hand.

Lowestoft now head to Essex tomorrow (Saturday, January 24) to face second placed Maldon & Tiptree.

The month's scheduled action concludes next Saturday, January 31 at Crown Meadow as Lowestoft host third placed Waltham Abbey.

Currently, Lowestoft are due to play five scheduled league games in the space of 21 days in February.

Three home matches and two away games are earmarked, although there may be further rescheduling.

It starts on Saturday, February 7 away at Witham Town, before the previously postponed home clash at Crown Meadow against Walthamstow now takes place on Tuesday, February 10 (7.45pm KO).

Another home game follows on Saturday, February 14 as a Valentines Day treat sees Lowestoft host Downham Town at Crown Meadow.

A trip to Redbridge follows on Saturday, February 21 before the month is scheduled to end on Saturday, February 28 as Lowestoft entertain Concord Rangers at Crown Meadow.
