Trawlerboys gear up for Hertfordshire trip with new signing

Trawlerboys gear up for Hertfordshire trip with new signing

Mark Boggis24 Jan - 07:30

Lowestoft welcome new goalkeeper Ellis Craven as they prepare for Bishop’s Stortford test

Lowestoft Town have made a new signing to bolster their ranks as they prepare to head to Hertfordshire this weekend.

The Trawlerboys have signed goalkeeper Ellis Craven on an initial one-month loan deal from Norwich City.

The shot stopper, 20, is set to provide valuable experience to the young Trawlerboys squad after he had previously signed for Norwich from Rochdale in 2023.

He has already enjoyed loan spells with Leiston and Boston United this season, and was an unused sub for Norwich’s match against Spurs U21s last Saturday.

Linking up with the Lowestoft squad, his signing comes after long-term injuries to keepers Luke Holt and Korey Beevor had curtailed their campaigns earlier this season.

With Sam Blair's short-term deal with The Trawlerboys having now ended, as he returns to Scandinavia to resume full-time football, a club spokesman said: "We would like to thank Sam for his efforts in goal and wish him all the very best with his career."

Given these developments, Blues boss Andy Reynolds swooped to sign Craven as young goalkeeper Ronnie Yeo is set to be suspended after he was sent off in Lowestoft's late defeat at home to Stourbridge last Saturday.

Reynolds said: "I’m really pleased to welcome Ellis to the club.

"Ellis has experience at this level and higher, and it’s great to have a young pro from a club known for producing top goalkeepers.

"With Sam Blair’s short stay coming to an end, it was vital to get someone in, and now we can focus on getting our lads fit and maybe adding a few more to the squad."

He is available for Lowestoft ahead of their league trip to Bishop’s Stortford tomorrow (Saturday).

A 220-mile round trip to Hertfordshire sees the 18th-placed Trawlerboys  face 16th-placed Bishop's Stortford, who are a point ahead of Lowestoft from the same number of games played.

Lowestoft suffered late heartbreak last Saturday - as two goals in the final 10 minutes saw them defeated 1-2 against Stourbridge.

Harvey Sayer's 39th minute penalty had given Lowestoft an interval lead, but Blues keeper Yeo was booked in the 79th minute for a foul as a penalty was awarded - with the subsequent spot kick converted.

A melee then ensued after the equaliser, with players booked and Yeo was sent off after being shown a second yellow card.

Down to 10 men, and with attacker Joe Duffy in goal, The Trawlerboys held on - until they were hit by a 92nd minute winner.

Tomorrow's away game comes ahead of five games in 21 days next month - with four home games at the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium awaiting Andy Reynolds men in February.

Lowestoft are due to host Stratford Town on Saturday, February 1 (3pm) ahead of the rescheduled home clash with Suffolk rivals AFC Sudbury on Tuesday, February 4 (7.45pm).

An away trip to Harborough Town follows on Saturday, February 8 before back to back home games are set to end the month against Hitchin Townon Saturday, February 15 and Banbury United on Saturday, February 22.
