Three successive pre-season wins for Trawlerboys

Pre-season programme continues as Blues bid farewell to 'fantastic' duo

"We have three more competitive games to come."
- Blues boss Jamie Godbold

Preparations ahead of Lowestoft Town FC's return to Step 3 football are continuing to gather pace.

Supporters of The Trawlerboys are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the new Southern League Premier Central fixtures for the 2024/2025 campaign, which are set to be revealed at lunchtime today (Friday).

But over the past week, they've been able to cheer on Jamie Godbold's men once more - with two pre-season friendlies having been held at the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium.

Maintaining their winning run to the pre-season programme Lowestoft followed up a 1-2 away win at newly promoted Newmarket Town on July 9, with a 4-2 victory over Fakenham Town last Saturday and a 5-2 victory over Kirkley and Pakefield last Tuesday night.

A triallist, Sam Johnson, Sam Aldous and Harvey Sayer have all been amongst the goals in both home games over the past week - with Sayer hitting five of the goals.

And with the games continuing to come thick and fast, Lowestoft will be heading out on their travels once more with an away game at Mulbarton Wanderers tonight (Friday, July 19, 7.45pm kick off at Mulberry Park).

Lowestoft's final home pre-season friendly will be against Gorleston at the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium on Saturday, July 27, ahead of an away match to complete their pre-season programme at Felixstowe & Walton Utd on August 3.

Blues boss Jamie Godbold said: "The results probably at this stage of pre-season come second, but nevertheless winning is a good habit to get into.

"We've had two more good workouts, and we have three more competitive games to come.

"The players have got good minutes this week, with a larger squad of 18 on Saturday and a smaller squad on Tuesday.

"We have managed to get a lot of minutes across the players and Tuesday's match saw a lot of the regular first team players from last season get a good 90 minutes under their belts.

"We had a lot of youngsters in last Saturday and it is important to have a good look at them, as well as the triallists.

"The transition of the academy and performances over the last season of Sam Aldous, Sam Howell, Ben Atkinson, Korey Beevor and others shows it is important to give them an opportunity in pre-season and they all did really well.

"We have had triallists come in and we are still looking.

"We will probably take 16 on Friday - depending on availabilities, illness, injuries - and we know we have three games left to prepare ourselves for the new Southern League Premier Central league campaign."

Godbold admitted that the search for new signings to bolster the squad continues.

He said: "There's no secret in our dressing room, we are light in numbers.

"We are working very hard to bring players in and we still have a few weeks left to go to potentially find some new lads and get them to Lowestoft."

As this hard work continues off the pitch, Godbold expressed disappointment as he confirmed the departures of Adam Hipperson and Tom Fitzgerald.

Godbold said: "I am disappointed to be losing two fantastic players, and lads, on our journey to Step 3 football.

"Hippo has been fantastic since the day he walked in the door and he has played a huge part in our success over the last two years.

"His goals, assists and experience will be hard to replace but unfortunately his recent change in work commitments means he cannot commit.

"Fitzy has also made the decision to leave due to personal circumstances.

"Fitzy was terrific last season, making positive contributions, sometimes in unnatural positions, and I always felt he would be the perfect replacement for Hints when he retired.

"I would like to thank both lads for giving me and the supporters some great memories and we wish them all the best for whatever’s next."

Thank you Hippo and Fitzy for the great memories and all your efforts in a Lowestoft Town FC shirt.
