Supporters Club Monthly Update - October 2012

Terry Bullen6 Nov 2012 - 21:56

The following news item is the Supporters Club Monthly Update for October 2012.

The update is normally placed on the forum and a link placed here but due to issues with the forum, the update has been put here in full........

Hello Trawlerboy’s Members.

Below is the Supporters Club monthly update for October 2012.

Since the September update the Supporters Club and Football Club have events planned and advertised for the remainder of 2012, so check them out and make sure you get booked on, so not to miss out on the fun.

TEAM PERFORMANCE
First Team:-
The First Team have had a mixed month on the results front, going out of the FA Cup and League Cup, progressing in the Suffolk Premier Cup and registering one win and one loss in the league. It's also been a frustrating period, with cup involvement for Lowestoft and their opposing teams causing a number of league games to be postponed.
The highlight of the month was a good FA Cup run, in which the team played superbly away to St Albans and then Braintree, coming very close to making the first round proper but just falling short after a good offensive display but poor defending against the Essex outfit.
Progress was made in the Suffolk Premier cup, were a goal by Eagle and a brace from Stone was enough to see Lowestoft past Brantham, after leading 3-0 at half time but stumbling across the line in the second half to win 3-2.
The League Cup saw Lowestoft send a mixed side of First Team players and Reserve Team players to Soham Town Rangers and even though the youngsters were exceptional and Lowestoft had the large part of the play, a cruel injury time equaliser and a penalty shoot out saw Lowestoft bow out of the competition.
The first of the two league games in October brought disappointment, with Lowestoft going down 3-1 to Kingstonian at home, in a game in which Lowestoft were physical brushed aside and hit by three classy finishes. Better things were to come in the other league game though, as they brushed Wingate and Finchley aside 3-0 and had the job done by half time.
The squad has been fraught with injuries and suspensions of late and with a defeat at Carshalton kicking off November, positivity is the order of the day going into November and the festive period.

Reserves/U21’s:-
The Reserve/U21’s team were also affected by postponements in October and played three matches during this time. Their great start to the season was continued but this month did see Jamie Godlbold’s side taste defeat for the first time this season, going down 1-0 at home to Maldon and Tiptree.
Either side of that result the team won 3-2 at home to Whitton United in the Suffolk Senior Cup with player/manager Jamie Godbold scoring twice in the final five minutes and at the end of the month they beat local rivals Gorleston 4-0. A game in which several first team players were in the starting line-up, to gain some match fitness on their return from injury.
On an individual front, October has been a great time for some and a bad time for others. It was bad for Joe Clark, who broke his leg against Maldon and Tiptree and now faces a lengthy spell on the touchline. However it was all smiles for Adam Fitzgerald, receiving a call up to the Suffolk County U18’s side and celebrating his call up by scoring in a 7-2 victory against Gloucestershire in the FA County Youth Cup. There were also smiles among a number of players, who after impressing so far this season, were handed a call up to the First Team squad away to Soham Town Rangers in the League Cup. Doddington and Taylor unfortunately didn’t get on from the bench but Wilson, Britcher, Nelson, Dasaolu, Kyle Godbold, Fitzgerald and Withington all featured alongside Jamie Godbold, who notched up his 488th game for the club. The result didn’t go Lowestoft’s way though, conceding an injury time equaliser and then losing on penalties; however Ady Gallagher praised the young reserve players, stating that the boys were exceptional and showed what good, young quality we have developing at the club.

Academy:-
It’s been another up and down month for the Academy Team, with the month kicking off with a heavy 6-0 defeat at Wroxham, to dump them out of the FA Youth Cup.
Their next game did see the side bounce back though, getting their first league points on the board with an impressive 5-0 home win over North Walsham Town, with the first of the five goals coming from a great solo effort by Jerry Dasaolu.
This match was followed by a good attacking performance and a well deserved 2-2 draw against Norwich United but it was back to losing ways as the month came to a close, going down 2-0 away to local rivals Kirkley and Pakefield.
This month also saw Academy Team Manager Mike Peters step down from his role and with the club approaching them, both Jamie Godbold and Andy Reynolds agreed to take up the role, with the hope that their full time roles at the FA and their experience in managing the Academy Team in the past will aid them in turning the teams fortunes around.
It wasn’t just the players in the Reserve side who were being noticed at county level either, as young goalkeeper Asa Swatman received a call up to the Suffolk U16’s Representative Squad to play against Bedforshire. The Suffolk team ended up losing the match 3-2 but Asa made a couple of good saves and gained some valuable experience from the game.

Lowestoft Ladies:-

With a mixture of postponements, due to a waterlogged pitch and sides being unable to get a team together, the Ladies have only played once in October. That game was a tough away game to Acle, in which a gritty performance and goals from Marcie Prettyman and Ellie Froud secured Lowestoft a narrow 2-1 victory. The victory was deserved but Acle created chances themselves, with Lady of the Match and Lowestoft keeper Nikki Wigg, making a string of fine saves to keep Acle at bay.

MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

Our membership total currently stands at 63 but we are hoping for this figure to rise as events get underway (discount to members) and more home games take place.

FINANCE UPDATE

Our current balance now stands at £821.38, with a few more memberships coming in. The balance will shortly be rising to £929.38 though, with £40 being raised on a couple of scratch cards for the FA Cup trip to Braintree, which Andy Reynolds kindly went round the coach with and £68 which has already been paid in from Goals Sponsorship (see below item). There have been no outgoings this month and with events planned for the remainder of the year, we’re hoping to see this total rise.

An in depth report of the finances can be requested by any member.

EVENTS / FUNDRAISING
With the First Team now out of all cups except the FA Trophy, we’ve now been able to plan some events, which have already been advertised and are shown below.
Don’t forget that for all these events (including events laid on by the Football Club); all Supporters Club members will receive a discount on the price of the events.

Supporters Breakfast (Open to everyone now) – 17th November 2012 at 10:30am
The first of many Supporters Club Breakfasts this season will be held on Saturday 17th November 2012 at 10:30am, prior to our home game against Bognor Regis Town. The event was initially advertised as Trawlerboys Members only but this has now been opened up to everyone, in order for places to be filled by early next week. We will have Special Guests Craig Fleming and Gary Keyzor in attendance, joining us for a lovely breakfast buffet and for a short Q&A session. There will also be a raffle, of which entry is included in the price. Places are priced at £6 for Trawlerboys Members and £7 for Non Members and can be booked by leaving your name on the fans forum or texting/calling Terry Bullen on 07879496895.

Race Night (Yarmouth Greyhound Stadium) – Saturday 24th November 2012
We laid this event on last season and it proved to be really popular and a great night out for a fairly small cost. Therefore we are looking to run this on two occasions this season, with the first one being held on Saturday 24th November 2012, after our home game against Hastings United.
The event is priced at £12.50 for Trawlerboys Members and £15 for Non Members, with U16’s being charged just £5.
The price includes coach travel to and from the stadium, entry, race card and a drink. The coach will depart the Crown Meadow at 6:15pm (first race 7:30pm) and will return from the Stadium at 11pm. Places can be booked by contacting Terry Bullen on 07879496895, so get booked on now.

Christmas Tombola – Saturday 8th December 2012

On Saturday 8th December 2012 we will have a Christmas Tombola stand at our home game against Wealdstone. We will be situated near the turnstiles and there will be plenty of festive items to be won on the day.

The Supporters Club have been given a limited number to offer to their members at a reduced price of £12.50, so get your tickets now to avoid disappointment.

In the background we are continuing to actively looking at some new events for the season and once we have obtained enough information and worked out if these are viable, then you’ll be the first to know. One such event is a possible annual Summer Beer Festival, so watch this space.
