The club are delighted to welcome Keith Webb to the staff in the role of Head of Coaching.
Keith is currently Regional Coach Development Manager for The FA and has not long completed a Masters in Sports Coaching.
Keith started his coaching career in 1986 at Norwich City as Youth Team Manager in a time when he was part of the journey of household names such as Chris Sutton, Ruel Fox, Darren Eadie, Andy Johnson, Keith O'Neill, Danny Mills, Craig Bellamy and Robert Green. In 2000 Keith was promoted to Reserve Team Manager, a position he held for 6 years before joining Kings Lynn who were in the Southern League. In his first full season, Keith led Kings Lynn to promotion into the Conference North, where they stayed until club internal issues led to him resigning from the role. After a brief spell abroad, Keith joined The Football Association in a coach development capacity and found himself again managing in the England Cerebral Palsy team at World & European Championships before leading Team GB in Brazil at the 2014 Paralympics.
Talking about the appointment of Keith, Andy Reynolds said, "Its great to have Keith join the club, his experiences in the vast range of environments he has worked speak for themselves. It's not a common role filled within clubs at our level but with the direction we want to move all teams at the club and the pathway we want to have working from bottom to top we felt it was a role worth creating. Jamie, Myself and Tanny are all open minded enough to be challenged so we can take the 'tip of the spear' forward so to speak, and I know we have a group of Academy staff with the same mentality who will welcome this. If we are asking coaches to join our club and give the everything to developing the players, then we have a responsibility to ensure we help them do this"
We spoke to Keith and asked why he has taken up the position, "I have known both Jamie and Andy for a number of years and both share the same values and attitudes about football and people. They are striving to give Lowestoft a clear philosophy and structure that people who follow the club should be proud of. It will give local players a development pathway which might one day lead to senior football in the town raising standards at the same time".
Keith also shared his initial priorities and how he plans to measure success,"My first priority is to link up with the coaches and begin to build a relationship with them. To be there for them and act as a sounding board for their ideas and strategies for the players going forward. It’s important that there is a common theme running through the teams and to create a golden thread through the club and that needs to be agreed by all that are involved. How will I judge success? Difficult to answer that. To see a team of coaches working together to enhance the opportunities for development for their players by developing an environment of coaching excellence for everyone. Everything else is open to debate at what success looks like".
1st team Manager, Jamie Godbold said, "I am delighted that Keith has agreed to take up this role with Lowestoft Town. Keith has been a good friend and mentor for a number of years and his knowledge and experience within the game will be crucial in the development of our young players. The success he has achieved in winning trophies, and track record of developing young players, speaks for itself. This 'signing' demonstrates the importance we place on our youth section, and I'm even more confident now that with the talented young coaches we have guiding our young players, we will have players capable of representing our club at First team level".
Welcome aboard Keith, we look forward to seeing you when football is up and running again.
