Ladies go top of the league

Lowestoft Town took full advantage of a depleted Kings Lynn Soccer Club with a dominant 8-0 win at Crown Meadow on Sunday.

A Hat-Trick from Beth Turner, a brace from Lauren Goulder plus individual strikes from Mia Rose and Imogen Smith as well as own goal saw Lowestoft win comfortably and reach the top of the league.

The pre match tight contest that was billed with both teams coming into the game with 100% records unfortunately didn't materialise with Kings Lynn only able to travel to the fixture with 10 players.

Full credit must go to the West Norfolk outfit who despite not having a full 11 still made the near four hour, 154 mile round trip for their longest away day of the season.

Before the game a minutes silence was held in memory of the late Bungay Town groundsman Richard Allen who died suddenly last week.

Kings Lynn started brightly forcing Lowestoft keeper Chloe Pearce into a double save on the 7th minute.

Five minutes later Lowestoft began to put the pressure on as a Mia Rose cross found Louise Nichols who shot with the outside of her foot and hit the bar from 20 yards out.

Stella Astle was on fire in the Kings Lynn goal making a catalogue of good saves throughout the duration of the contest.

The deadlock was broken on the 20th minute when Lauren Goulder found the net. Kings Lynn had held their own well in the first quarter of the game but once Lowestoft scored they went on a scoring spree.

In the next 10 minute window Beth Turner netted a brace to make it 3-0 inside half an hour. Two more goals in the final five minutes of the opening half firstly an own goal and then Lauren Goulder completed her brace to make it a five goal lead at Half Time and five goals in five appearances in all competitions this season for Goulder.

The second half period saw Kings Lynn continue to bravely battle with their 10 players and hold firm until just after the hour mark.

The first goal of the second period and Lowestoft's sixth saw Beth Turner complete her hat-trick and take her total to 10 goals across five NWGFL League and Cup appearances this season averaging two per game as Turner continued her incredible start to the season. The Hat-Trick which saw Turner reach double figures also took her to the top of the NWGFL scoring charts for the season so far in Division One.

The seventh, an expertly finished goal by Mia Rose before Lowestoft saved the best until last as a superb eighth which was a delightful team goal which concluded with Mia Rose crossing for Imogen Smith to finish to claim the final goal of the game as Smith rounded her productive day off with a goal after two assists earlier in the game.

It was a brilliant 8-0 win for the Trawler Girls who now top the table with four wins from four games and remain one of only two clubs across the entire NWGFL adult pyramid to have a 100% record with the other being Mundford in Division Three.

Credit must also go to the visitors Kings Lynn Soccer Club who played their part in a superb sporting occasion and ran themselves into the ground with just their 10 players who all did their club proud including an inspired display from Rachel Skinner.

It was an occasion to be proud of for both clubs and the re match at Kings Lynn currently scheduled for 17th January will be one to look forward to.

This was NWGFL Football played in the right way with both clubs ending the afternoon happy and proud of their efforts.

Next game for Lowestoft is another home game against Long Stratton in the second round of the Norfolk Women and Girls League Cup which is scheduled for this Sunday 8th November at Crown Meadow with kick off at 2pm.

Up the Trawler Girls!
