Ladies and Girls Update
Sunday 1st March saw Lowestoft Town Ladies retain their five point lead at the top of Norfolk Women and Girls League Division One without kicking a ball. The Trawler girls had no fixture but Costessey Sports missed the chance to close the gap to two points and put pressure on Lowestoft due to their away fixture at Sprowston being postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. The gap remains five points with both teams having eight games and twenty four points to play for.
In more good news for the Trawler Girls any hope title outsiders Mulbarton Wanderers had of getting in the mix in these closing stages of the season were ended on Sunday as they were surprisingly held 2-2 at home to Kings Lynn Soccer Club leaving them 5 points behind Lowestoft but having played two games more, the title race now firmly between Lowestoft Town and Costessey Sports.
The rest of March sees Lowestoft host FC Viking Valkyries on Sunday 8th March at Crown Meadow in a fixture which coincides with International Women's Day before trips to Costessey Sports on 15th March for their League Cup Semi Final at the FDC and a trip to Bure Valley on 22nd March in the quest for three more league points. The month is wrapped up with Costessey Sports visiting Crown Meadow, this time for a league fixture on Sunday 29th March. A month which may not be season defining, but by the time March is over we will know how much the Trawler Girls are on course to achieve this season.
Without a game yesterday, many of the TrawlerGirls senior players and coaching staff went along to Barnards Meadow to support Lowestoft Town U16 girls in their cup Semi Final vs Coplestonians. It was a game that the young Trawler Girls dominated from start to finish. Kelsey-Ann Stokes opened the scoring before Imogen Smith doubled the lead before Half Time.
Much like the Lowestoft Town Ladies last week vs Bure Valley, the Lowestoft Town U16 girls were not happy to settle for a 2-0 win and upped their levels further and produced an amazing second half. Stokes added her second and Lowestoft's third before Hannah Pearce made it four.
There was time for two more goals as Imogen Smith got both to make it a Hat-Trick for herself and a 6-0 win for Lowestoft Town which could have been so much more. It was a fabulous performance that saw the young Trawler Girls reach the League Cup Final where they will face Bury Town Community who beat Leiston 4-2 in the other Semi Final. The final will be played at Needham Market on a date to be confirmed.
In more fantastic news Lowestoft Town U14 girls reached their Plate Cup Final with a 3-0 victory over Ipswich Valley Rangers. They will go on to face Woodbridge in the final on a date to be confirmed.
Another successful Sunday for Women's and Girls Football at the club.
Up the Trawler Girls!
