Semi Final time for Ladies as season reaches crunch time
The run in to the end of the season begins this Sunday for Lowestoft Town with a huge Norfolk Women and Girls League Cup Semi Final away to Costessey Sports. The Semi Final takes place at the FDC in Bowthorpe with a 10am kick off.
Lowestoft who have had the perfect season so far with 10 wins out of 10 in the League and reaching the Semi Finals of both the Suffolk Women's Cup and this Norfolk Women and Girls League Cup which the Costessey semi final this Sunday takes place in.
The season continues to be stop and start for Lowestoft with only 6 fixtures having taken place in the last 18 Sundays due to a mixture of weather and opposition teams not having enough players. This arguably has been the greatest challenge for Lowestoft in their quest for success this season. However the Trawler Girls remain with perfect results as we enter the mid-march weekend.
Last time out on 22nd February saw Lowestoft produce their best performance of the season, a 10-0 mauling of Bure Valley in the Barnards Meadow sunshine thanks to Hat-Ticks from Lucy Eagle and Beth Turner and goals from Lauren Goulder, Hazel Saddington, Selina Rowland and Marcie Prettyman saw a statement victory from the Trawler Girls and reminded everyone who the title favourites are.
Another 3 week break has been unwelcome but Lowestoft have become used to it, the ladies have played on consecutive Sunday's once since 2nd November which is a terrifying statistic, yet they still keep delivering despite having no regular match minutes and no regular Sunday afternoon routine. The hope will be that the regular football will come as we enter the season's climax.
8 League fixtures, 2 cup Semi Finals and hopefully 2 finals await the Trawler Girls between now and the final curtain call in May. Now is the time when heroes will be made and the big performances will really count.
The run in begins on Sunday where the Trawler Girls will meet a young and energetic Costessey Sports who have kept Lowestoft honest right the way through the season and currently sit 2 points behind them in the title race albeit having played a game more.
The previous meeting of the two clubs came on 26th October at the FDC when Lowestoft were comfortable 5-0 winners thanks to five different scorers in the name of Mia Rose, Laura Thacker, Bethany Turner, Lucy Eagle and Lauren Goulder which put distance between the clubs which has remained since.
This tie was the toughest Lowestoft could have got in the Semi Finals with Aylsham and Kings Lynn squaring off in the other last four battle. Costessey come into the game having played 7 times in 2026, compared to the 3 of Lowestoft. The unique and bizarre 10am kick off on Mothering Sunday morning will add another dynamic to negotiate for both clubs with the Football Development centre unavailable in Costessey's regular afternoon slot.
Lowestoft can expect to meet a fired up and raring to go Costessey who realistically know this competition resembles their remaining chance to win something this season unless there is a bizarre turn of events in the league title race. Therefore, The Trawler Girls know they will have to be at their very best to secure their place in the final at Youngs Park in Aylsham on 17th May.
The league meeting in October will fill Lowestoft with confidence, but there will be plenty of work to do in what is set to be an epic Semi Final Showdown, don't expect another 5-0, but if Lowestoft do everything right they will be very hard to stop.
The Match on Sunday takes place at the FDC in Bowthorpe (NR5 9ED) and is Free Entry to all spectators with ample free parking. The Trawler Girls would love your support as they aim to reach a first final since their re-birth in 2025.
Up the Trawler Girls!
