Lowestoft 1-4 Felixstowe

By Darrell Allen

Lowestoft Town were comfortably beaten despite a fast start in their festive fixture against league leaders Felixstowe. This post Christmas fixture drew a crowd of exactly 600 at Crown Meadow and there was much anticipation following the announcement of the return of Harvey Sayer on a 1 month loan deal from Tamworth.

The Trawlerboys started the game brilliantly, Harvey Sayer struck the cross bar before Harvey Peters had a header which was saved by Harry Wright in the Felixstowe goal. There were further chances for the home side before Lowestoft got reward for their positive start when on 15 minutes where a perfect Ashton Blogg cross found Aaron Bullent who headed home to give Lowestoft a fully deserved lead.

Lowestoft continued to be dominant throughout the first half an hour as Josh Harvey had a header which hit the underside of the bar but Lowestoft were unable to extend their lead in a first half hour of total dominance.

Felixstowe then found their feet, Toby Stevenson equalised from a corner on 33 minutes before Jose Santa De La Paz ran down the right and finished well to give the visitors the Half Time lead which felt a little harsh on Lowestoft.

The second period saw a very comfortable half for Felixstowe, just seven minutes after the re-start Jose Santa De La Paz headed home well from a great cross from Josh Hitter to give Felixstowe a two goal advantage and make it an uphill battle for Lowestoft.

Hitter then hit one himself on 67 minutes which was an absolute rocket from 20 yards out to make it 4-1, it was the goal of the game and secured what in the end was a comfortable victory for the visitors who were clinical and showed their quality and just why they are top of the table.

There will be plenty of positives to take from the first 30 minutes for Lowestoft but the way they capitulated after Felixstowe equalised will be huge cause for concern, in truth once Felixstowe got their second, Lowestoft never looked like coming back.

Lowestoft remain winless since 15th November and have a huge local Derby at Wroxham next Saturday before two important looking home games against fellow strugglers Walthamstow and Mildenhall on 10th and 17th January respectively the results of which will be key in shaping the remaining direction of the season.
