Two games in three days for table topping Trawlerboys

'The Easter weekend itself, if you can come out of the games with a good points return then you know there are only three games left.'
- Blues boss Jamie Godbold

Lowestoft Town are set for a crucial few days - with two league games set to be played in quick succession as they head into the final month of the season.

After returning to the top of the Pitching In Isthmian North Division last Saturday, The Trawlerboys' promotion push continues with two games being played in the space of three days.

An Easter treat awaits, with Lowestoft kickstarting a run of five games that will decide their fate in March and April.

It all starts with a trip to Essex and a visit to ninth-placed Maldon & Tiptree tomorrow - before a real cracker on Easter Monday as another Suffolk derby takes centre stage.

All roads will lead to Crown Meadow in Lowestoft on bank holiday Monday (3pm KO) as two of the top three teams in the division collide at the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium.

Lowestoft will host third placed Bury Town in another "huge" all-Suffolk clash.

After returning to the top of the table following a fine 2-0 win over Suffolk rivals - and previous leaders - Felixstowe and Walton United last Saturday, a goal apiece in each half from Kyle Haylock and Sam Johnson sealed a superb victory in front of an excellent crowd of 971.

It secured a seventh successive home league win for The Trawlerboys since January 6.

After Saturday's trip (March 30) to Maldon & Tiptree, two further away games follow at Witham Town on April 6 and New Salamis on April 20.

The visit of third placed Bury Town on Monday (April 1) is followed by a final home game of the season at the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium on April 27 with fourth placed Brentwood Town the visitors.

Speaking ahead of the Maldon and Tiptree clash, Blues boss Jamie Godbold reflected on the excellent Felixstowe win and the run of games ahead.

The Blues boss said: "It was a terrific result against Felixstowe & Walton United.

"It was a really good performance and a much needed win against our nearest rivals.

"I thought we looked comfortable throughout, we defended as a team really well and proved to be a constant threat throughout the game.

"Jake Reed is obviously such an important player to us and when he has been missing at times we have struggled without him.

"But we changed the system around, played slightly different and the lads executed the game plan to a tee.

"Sam Johnson and Kyle Haylock both played up top, both scored and they looked a constant threat all afternoon.

"We defended a bit deeper and closed the spaces to our goal and I felt we were fantastic as a group, and as a team.

"They were top of the league, we had a point to prove and apart from a missed opportunity just after half time we nullified them - but now we have more to do.

"At home we are a formidable force and now we have two home games left against teams around us - and this home form, and the backing of our supporters is really important to us.

"I thought we could have had more goals (against Felixstowe) - Kyle had a couple of chances, Hippo does superb but his lobbed effort hits the post and rolls along the line - in what was a really good, dominant performance.

"Now we have two really tough games (Maldon & Tiptree and Bury).

"Maldon away is a difficult place to go. We went there around the same time of year last year and it will be a tough game.

"They have been in the top half of the table all season, have flirted with the play-offs, they are a good side.

"We know we have to counter that, with one performance as three important points are available.

"Jake Reed is still touch and go for the weekend, Louis McIntosh should be available.

"We're hoping Jake is available, as without doubt he is the best striker in this league, the top goalscorer who is great on the pitch and great in the dressing room - you want your top players on the teamsheet.

"Because when other teams see the teamsheet and see that Reedy is playing, he is such an important player for us as he strikes fear into the opposition.

"The Easter weekend itself, if you can come out of the games with a good points return then you know there are only three games left.

"Bury are on a run of fabulous form since when we played them last (December 23), they have gone on an unbelievable run and they can still catch us.

"So Monday will be a hell of a game, with a big crowd and hopefully the supporters know - as I've said all season - just how important they are to us and how they are needed this Monday.

"We need every piece of rallying support they can provide again - so show up in numbers once more and get behind the lads.

"With two games in three days, and with players that possibly could not do both games, we have to manage them and see how it goes after Saturday.

"Charlie Norman's recovery time, had it been at the end of the season would be two or three months, but he can play through his injury and we've had that conversation of whether he waits to the end of the season or if he wants to try and play.

"He wants to play, we want him to play and I think you can see just how important he is to us with the performance against Felixstowe as he makes such a big difference to us.

"On Monday you will have two teams both trying to play, after a tough game on the Saturday it is a really big ask of the lads.

"When you have three important points at stake, you want as many players to be fit and available for what will be a huge game."
