East coast derby awaits Trawlerboys

Pre-season programme continues with final home game ahead of new league season

'We want to make our home ground a fortress'
- Blues boss Jamie Godbold

An east coast derby will take centre stage this weekend as Lowestoft Town FC continue their pre-season programme.

The Trawlerboys maintained their unbeaten run away at Mulberry Park last Friday night with a 2-2 draw against Mulbarton Wanderers.

The home side hit two goals in the first half to lead at the interval, before Jake Reed and a Harvey Sayer penalty saw the game end all-square.

Lowestoft's final home pre-season friendly takes place against Gorleston tomorrow (Saturday, July 27) at the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium, before an away match at Felixstowe & Walton Utd on August 3 completes the pre-season programme.

The Trawlerboys return to Step 3 football will commence on August 10 as the new Pitching In Southern League Premier Central Division season kicks off.

An opening day home clash at the Fosters Solictors Community Stadium will see Jamie Godbold's men take on a Redditch United outfit who made the play-offs last season.

Speaking to the league's website, the Blues boss said: "Based on our previous season in this league, our home form was by far better than our away form.

"There’s a lot of distance to be covered throughout the season; we will be a lot of teams’ furthest journey, so first and foremost we want to make our home ground a fortress and make it a difficult place to come to.

"Recruitment is always our biggest challenge based on our location and the travelling involved, but I’m confident we will have a competitive squad come August 10."

Reflecting on the return to pre-season training and friendlies action, ahead of the new campaign, Godbold said: "Training and the pre-season games have gone well so far and the players look in good shape.

"We see this as a great opportunity to test ourselves against some quality teams at some new grounds.

"My teams will always be full of energy and athleticism with technically-good footballers.

"Of course, we want to be successful by playing attacking and exciting football, but we realise that there will be times at this level where we will have to dig in to grind out results.

"Ultimately, our aim is to enjoy the experience and win as many games as we can along the way."
