Busy schedule ahead for Trawlerboys

Busy schedule ahead for Trawlerboys

Mark Boggis13 Feb - 22:00

Two home games in four days await Lowestoft

Lowestoft Town are bracing themselves for a packed schedule of games after further postponements.

The Trawlerboys are hoping they can finally return to the pitch tomorrow (Saturday - a morning pitch inspection may be necessary) after two scheduled games were postponed over the past week.

Lowestoft were due to kickstart an important phase of the season with two games in four days - but both matches fell foul of the wet conditions as they were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

A busy spell of action in February was set to start last weekend ahead of six Pitching In Isthmian League North Division matches in just 21 days.

However, Saturday's scheduled trip to face Witham was called off last Friday due to a waterlogged pitch following the recent deluge of rain.

And it proved to be another similarly frustrating story on Tuesday, as the Blues home clash with Walthamstow at Crown Meadow - which had previously already been postponed due to bad weather - was called off following a lunchtime pitch inspection with the surface waterlogged.

Both matches have now been rescheduled for next month.

It means that 15 league games are still remaining for The Trawlerboys, who were last in action on January 31.

Back then is marked the first game where the senior players had stepped up to lead Lowestoft last time out at Crown Meadow, with Rob Eagle in the dugout for the clash against third placed Waltham Abbey that ended in a narrow 1-2 defeat despite a fine spirited display that pushed the Essex-based Abbotts all the way.

Lowestoft are now 18th in the league table as they look to end a winless run spanning 13 weeks when they hopefully resume action tomorrow.

The Trawlerboys are level on points with 19th placed Takeley, and two points ahead of Saturday's opponents - 20th placed Downham Town.

Lowestoft however have three games in hand on The Saints, as the Norfolk side cross over the border for a Valentines Day clash at Crown Meadow on February 14.

With four games now to be played in 14 days this month, Lowestoft host 16th placed Mildenhall in another rescheduled clash at Crown Meadow next Tuesday, February 17 following the previous abandonment due to fog.

A trip to eighth placed Redbridge follows next Saturday, February 21 before the month's action is scheduled to end on Saturday, February 28 as Lowestoft entertain ninth placed Concord Rangers at Crown Meadow.

Six games in 25 days are now earmarked for March, with the rescheduled clashes against Walthamstow at Crown Meadow on Tuesday, March 3 and the trip to Witham Town on Tuesday, March 10.
