The club are delighted to announce plans for our expansion of teams for the 2021/22 season. The expansion will see Trawlerboys teams added at the age groups U9, U10, U11 & U12 when the new Junior Premier League season is allowed to begin and will look at an additional playing opportunity for our U17/18 players.
On the news of the Academy growth, Andy Reynolds, who heads up our Academy said "I think this will be a really positive step forward for the football club and the football community locally as it means more players who have the right attitude and ability will get more opportunities to develop alongside the existing provision. When I've spoken with the JPL representatives about their plans to expand the age groups in the East, it made sense to track our clubs development in line with that of the league, and as they roll out their age groups we will be looking to offer a clear pathway for some of the areas best players to get some of the best competition"
The Junior Premier League launched for the start of the 2011/12 season and was originally conceived by a group of large clubs from the Midlands & Southern England who were interested in developing their players through better coaching and better quality matches
The league is aimed at clubs who want to develop their players through a ‘best with best’ ethos – the NERF JPL is not aimed at single teams looking for a new challenge.
The ethos of the League is always development before results and the main aim is to give a season’s worth of top quality competitive matches to every team participating.
At present, our four competing age groups all sit within the top 5 positions of their divisions and compete against clubs such as 1st Team Suffolk rivals, Needham Market, Bury Town & Mildenhall Town as well as clubs such as Holland FC (Essex), St Neots, Kings Lynn & Stevenage Borough.
The Academy is now looking to begin the recruitment process of players and staff for the new season and Reynolds said "We welcome anyone, players and staff, who have the determination to want to be the very best to come on the journey with us. The people currently involved, and I include parents in that, have been first class and are setting the bar really high, and that excites me, because everyone who joins this year has the challenge to raise it again, this can undoubtedly drive up the standard of football locally in the years to come.
