1ST TEAM | FA Trophy test for Trawlerboys with latest trip to Essex

National cup action will take centre stage for Lowestoft once more tomorrow

Lowestoft Town will head out on their travels once more tomorrow (Saturday) as national cup action returns.

It comes after Lowestoft's young guns showed great resilience in their two Isthmian League North Division matches this week - battling back from being behind in both games to collect two points after successive 2-2 draws.

A trip to Heybridge Swifts last Saturday started badly as the home side took a second minute lead.

But a well worked 21st minute equaliser saw Dylan Ruffles' overlapping run and cross cause confusion as Milo Grimes headed into his own net.

Heybridge regained the lead with a 34th minute goal, but Kyle Haylock's superb 88th minute strike arrowed home to give Lowestoft a deserved point.

Speaking after Saturday's draw, Blues boss Andy Reynolds said: "We're disappointed with some of the bits today, particularly with the goals, but I'm also pleased with the character to keep going and dig something out.

"A great equaliser and it helped us get what we deserved overall."

An eagerly awaited east coast derby then saw Lowestoft host Gorleston at Crown Meadow on Tuesday evening.

Deadlocked at the interval, The Greens took a 0-2 lead inside the opening nine minutes of the second half through Ingram and Marsden.

And despite having skipper Dylan Ruffles sent off for two bookings, Connor Deeks forced the ball home from a 70th minute corner and Aaron Bullent converted an 83rd minute equaliser.

The next round of the Isuzu FA Trophy this Saturday will see Lowestoft in national cup action with a trip to Essex awaiting once more.

With 40 ties scheduled this weekend (Saturday, September 20), Andy Reynolds men have a second round qualifying tie against fellow Pitching In Isthmian League North Division side Waltham Abbey.

The Abbotts, who play at Capershotts in Waltham Abbey, are currently fifth in the league table, three points ahead of ninth placed Lowestoft with a game in hand.

The 80 teams remaining in the FA Trophy now head into the next stage knowing that the prize fund payment for winning teams is £2250 while losing clubs will collect £575.

There are no replays in the FA Trophy, so any games which end in a draw after 90 minutes will be decided via a penalty shootout.

Lowestoft complete September's action with a home league encounter at Crown Meadow on Saturday, September 27 (3pm KO) against 12th placed Witham Town, who are two points behind The Trawlerboys with two games in hand.

It will then be a quick reunion with Waltham Abbey - as October's league action begins with another trek to Essex, and a second visit to Capershotts within a fortnight as Lowestoft are away to The Abbotts on Saturday, October 4.

Five further league clashes are currently scheduled to be played after this in October, with two matches at home and three away.
