Trawlerboys prepare for vital trip to Essex

Trawlerboys prepare for vital trip to Essex

Mark Boggis17 Apr - 06:15

Crucial match with 16th placed Grays Athletic awaits Lowestoft Town

Lowestoft Town moved out of the relegation places with a crucial victory in the battle to beat the drop.

The Trawlerboys made it two wins from their last three games with an important second successive home victory last Saturday.

Goals in either half from Luca Upton, in the 44th minute, and Mitch Belmar in the 65th minute secured another vital three points as Lowestoft beat already relegated Heybridge Swifts 2-0 at Crown Meadow.

This victory combined with results elsewhere in the Pitching In Isthmian League North Division saw Lowestoft move up a place from the final relegation spot in 19th spot up to 18th.

They swapped places with Mildenhall Town, who dropped from 18th to 19th following a 3-1 loss at league leaders Maldon & Tiptree.

Lowestoft are also now only one point behind two teams immediately above them.

The Trawlerboys have 43 points from 40 games, and with just two matches remaining they now face teams that are 12th and 16th in the table.

A trip to 16th placed Grays Athletic - who are just one point ahead of Lowestoft - tomorrow could prove pivotal in the survival bid.

Lowestoft head to The EMR Stadium in Essex on Saturday to face The Blues, who have also won their past two league games at home - most recently a 1-0 victory over 11th placed Concord Rangers last Saturday.

Now in 17th place, having lost 1-0 last week, Takeley are one point ahead of the Trawlerboys.

After the Grays clash, Lowestoft's season ends with a home encounter against 12th placed Brightlingsea Regent on April 25.

But with four teams - Grays, Takeley, Lowestoft and Mildenhall - all involved in the battle to beat the drop and avoid the final relegation spot it is all still to play for.

Grays entertain Lowestoft tomorrow, and then play sixth placed Gorleston away on the final day.

Takeley play 12th placed Brightlingsea Regent away tomorrow, before hosting eighth placed Wroxham.

Mildenhall are at home against 14th placed Walthamstow tomorrow, before they face second placed Felixstowe and Walton United on the final day.
