SCHOLAR WEEKLY | Community Leadership and Two First-Team Debuts

SCHOLAR WEEKLY | Community Leadership and Two First-Team Debuts

Cion Wren

Productive training sessions, a competitive in-house fixture, community delivery and two more important First-Team milestones.

It has been another positive week for the Lowestoft Town scholars, featuring productive training sessions, a competitive in-house fixture, community delivery and two more important First-Team milestones.

Another Productive Training Week

The week began with lessons on Monday morning before the scholars moved onto the training pitch in the afternoon. Following their warm-up, the group completed technical practices and attacking patterns before finishing with competitive small-sided games. The session helped the players maintain their sharpness and begin preparing for the upcoming league fixture against Aveley. With no National Youth Alliance League fixture scheduled and the Performance team’s National Cup tie cancelled, mixed squads from both groups competed in an in-house game on Wednesday. The purpose of the fixture was to provide valuable match minutes and maintain the players’ fitness and sharpness. It proved to be a thrilling, end-to-end contest, with the Red Team eventually securing a 3–2 victory. The scholars returned to the grass on Thursday, working on patterns of play within a different shape before finishing with small-sided games. Friday concluded the week with a lighter technical session featuring further pattern work, a possession practice and competitive games.

Scholars Lead Primary School Activity Afternoon

On Tuesday afternoon, the scholars delivered a Sports Activity Afternoon for Year 3 and 4 pupils from primary schools across the local area. The scholars took responsibility for leading all the activities, supporting the children and creating a positive, enjoyable environment throughout the afternoon. The boys were absolutely brilliant and received plenty of positive feedback for their enthusiasm, maturity and leadership. It was another excellent opportunity for them to develop their communication and coaching skills while giving something back to the local community. The experience also provided valuable preparation for the October Half-Term Football Camp, where the scholars will once again support the delivery of activities for younger children at Crown Meadow.

Inside the Week: Archy Gore and Carson Lochrie

Reflecting on the week, Archy Gore and Carson Lochrie highlighted the balance between education, football and community work within the Scholarship Programme. Both players spoke about the importance of completing their classroom work to a high standard before carrying that focus into afternoon training. Archy particularly enjoyed helping to deliver Tuesday’s primary-school activity event and was pleased with the positive feedback received by the scholars. Carson highlighted the quality and competitiveness of Thursday and Friday’s sessions, with the group working through different shapes, attacking patterns, possession practices and small-sided games. The pair agreed that it had been another productive week, with the squad now sharp and ready for Wednesday’s league fixture.

Zac Cutajar Announced

This week, we were delighted to officially announce Zac Cutajar as the latest player to join the Lowestoft Town FC Scholarship Programme. Zac has already produced several excellent performances for the Young Blues, including being named Player of the Match following the recent 7–2 victory over Bishop’s Stortford. His announcement is thoroughly deserved, and we look forward to supporting Zac’s continued development throughout the season. We would also like to thank Plan B Solutions for sponsoring Zac and supporting his journey within the programme.

Scholar Watch: Two First-Team Debuts

Congratulations to Archy Gore and Jack Trowbridge, who both made their Lowestoft Town First Team debuts at the weekend. Both scholars were named in the starting line-up, marking a hugely proud moment for the players, their families and everyone involved with the programme. Archy and Jack have worked extremely hard since joining the Scholarship Programme and have consistently demonstrated the commitment and standards required to earn this opportunity. Creating a pathway into senior football is one of the programme’s most important aims, and it is fantastic to see two more scholars taking their first steps with the Lowestoft Town First Team.
