Lowestoft Town started their pre-season campaign with a 3-0 win thanks to a brace from trialist Josh Greenleaf and one from Jake Reed.

Lowestoft assembled an unfamiliar side for their first pre-season game of the season against Waveney, however were quick to show their superiority, as a 3-0 victory was wrapped up in the first half with a brace from trialist Josh Greenleaf and a one on one finish from fans favourite Jake Reed.

Greenleaf proved to be too much for the Waveney defenders to handle early on, as the striker headed home a first and added a second with a shot past James Bergin, following the flick on. The striker could have secured a dream debut with a hat-trick moments later, only for his strike to cannon against the crossbar and his day to later end, coming off in the first half after picking up a knock. Lowestoft continued to dominate proceedings though, controlling possession and denying the visitors anything more than a half chance on Ben Dudzinski's goal. But, Waveney did find themselves through on goal on one occasion, however, they were expertley thwarted by debutant Dudzinksi as he made a good save to deny Waveney, which was then followed by a goal-line clearance after the rebound to keep the away side out. Lowestoft added a deserved third as Jake Reed kept his cool to trickle a deflected attempt past the Waveney goalkeeper when played clean through on goal. The half ended with the hosts comfortable in the lead; Greenleaf, Reed and Harvey Hodd exhibiting their class early on.

In the second half, Lowestoft's attacking threat cooled down and Waveney grew into the game a tad more. Thankfully, the rock presence of eventual man of the match Rory McAuley in defence and Elvijs Putnins now in goal helped to maintain a comfortable situation at the back, as more substitutions were made. Youngster Callum Bishop stood out among the midfield when taking to the pitch, with assured passing and a presence that would have had spectators doubting his inexperience. The same could be said for trialist Nana Haizel, who also impressed in midfield barring a skied shot in the first half, and slotted right into the mix perfectly.

Decisions will of course be made on the trialists futures with the club, but fans were given something to look forward to with a dominating display that saw Lowestoft claim the Brian Gallagher Memorial Trophy, named after Waveney Youth's founder who died in 2013. Attention will now be switched to the blockbuster match on Saturday which sees Lowestoft up against Norwich City in Micky Chapman's testimonial, as tensions raise for the upcoming season.
