Scholars
Our Scholars have been really productive on and off the pitch recently.
On the pitch they have recorded a 5-1 victory at Crown Meadow against Dagenham & Redbridge in the National League U19 division. This was the first win in the competition for the boys and richly deserved. This and training performances led to some of the young lads being called in to train with the 1st team recently – this is the new partnership programme in action and hopefully only the very beginning of local lads getting more opportunities with the club.
Off the pitch, some of our students took part in the NCS programme that gave them the experience of a weekend away on residential completing many adventure tasks including archery, abseiling and rock climbing. This was a great opportunity for the group to
bond, learn and conquer some fears along the way.
As part of phase 2 students learned more about the local community and business before having to complete a Dragons Den task presenting to Sentinel Leisure previous and current CEO’s at Barnards Meadow.
Yesterday rounded off the week for the boys as they supported the latest recruitment session for our 2020 intake. We urge all supporters to help spread the work of our programme and direct all potential students to our website for more information.
Centre of Excellence
Our development squads who are preparing for EJA life next season have been developing nicely within their training and friendlies played. The U14 group in particular have recorded the outstanding result beating Woodbridge Town 9-1 – Woodbridge are currently unbeaten and top of the EJA league at that age group. Our U15’s lost out 3-0 in their friendly but importantly across both age groups the players are showing the level of potential required to compete in the EJA league moving forward.
Our EJA squads at U13 & U16 have been involved in some real ding-dong matches lately, last weekend the U13’s were on the wrong side of a 6-5 at Needham Market and the U16’s progressed in the cup away at Woodford Town 4-3. Travelling is second nature to the 1st team for fixtures but for the u16’s to have to go to London and get a result it’s a great opportunity for them to develop the mindset needed for the step up.
Some more individual player success’ recently also need celebrating as our boys are currently doing well enough to be recognised elsewhere.
Fletcher Hedge - Scholar - Currently on loan at Gorleston FC and been scoring from his centre midfield role
Buster Honeywood, Olly Limburn, Sansaw Pereira - Scholars - Trained with the 1st team after impressive training and game performances
Tommy Rix – U13 – continues to trial with Ipswich Town with good feedback from Tommy about his experiences and opportunities to play at some of the top clubs in the country. Keep it up Tommy we all have our fingers crossed for you.
Daniel Drage – U14 – has been selected for Suffolk schools, not many players from our area break in to squads due to limited opportunities but Daniel has – good luck.
Tyrese Melo, Gabby Mendoza, Chris Husband, Nico Capello – U16 – These lads all represented Norfolk schools in a fixture Vs Norwich City Academy side and came out winners 2-1! Great effort.
Matty Bunn – U16 – Selected for the Suffolk schools squad. Look forward to the Suffolk vs Norfolk clash!
These success’ join the list of previous achievements like Tyrese and Gabby in the U18 Youth Cup squad and playing well, 4 U13’s trialling for the EJA rep squad and 3 playing in their 1st fixture vs Ipswich Town.
It clear that our Academy pathway is starting to gather momentum and the club is desperate to ensure we keep recruiting the best staff and players in all programmes to help our continual growth and development of the players now and in the future.
