Lowestoft Ladies manager, David Eastwood was full of praise for his side after they secured the league title and their third promotion in four seasons

In very tough conditions the Lowestoft Ladies grinded out a 1-0 victory over Billericay Town on Sunday to secure the league title and promotion and now have the opportunity to see their names featured in league history if they can win all of their remaining games.

I caught up with a delighted ladies manager, David Eastwood after the match on Sunday to talk about another fantastic achievement for the Lowestoft Ladies.

Four seasons in, you've just secured your third promotion and plenty of champagne is flowing; you must be a very proud manager?
"It's an incredible achievement when you think that next season we will be playing Woman's Premier League football. It really is a surreal feeling and the Woman's Super League, which is the pinnacle of ladies football is just two steps away now. So for such a young team to achieve what they have in such a short space of time is incredible and at the end of the day it's all down to them. They're the ones who cross the touchline and go out onto the pitch every Sunday and deliver week in, week out for us".

You came into the game today knowing that a win would seal you the league title and promotion but it was brutally tough conditions out there on a dry, bobbly pitch and with a really blustery wind; so it was a real credit to the team in the way they never gave up wasn't it?
"The pitch and the conditions were a real leveller and at the end of the day it came down to who wanted it the most and who showed the most commitment, and we just managed to grind a result out. It just shows the character of the girls that they can grind a result out like that, because last season that's where we fell short a little bit and we've learnt from last season's experiences and put those into good effect this season".

You've also got a cup final to look forward to at the end of the season and a chance to put a cherry on the top of the season maybe?
"What a bonus that would be. It 's the day after presentation night, so that weekend is hopefully going to be absolutely amazing. I'm sure the girls will enjoy themselves and rightfully so but hopefully they'll control their drinking a little bit so that they can go out there and complete a league and cup double".

As a manager you've now got seven league games remaining but have secured the title and promotion, so what will the plan be for those seven games?
"I think what we've got to do with those seven games is use them to good effect in several ways. One is so that we can start planning for next season and we can also play some football without any pressure and a brand of football which I want the girls to play week in, week out. The other important thing is that only one team in the twenty-four years of the Easter Region Premier has ever won all of their league games. The last time it was done was in 1994, so that's the challenge to the girls now and to see if we can become the first team in twenty-one years to win all of their league games".

Well on behalf of the club and the supporters, really well done and congratulations.
"Thank you. We had a great atmosphere here today and we had our current sponsors, new sponsors and a great set of ball-girls. It was also really nice to see Mick Chapman here to cheer us on and to also pass on his best wishes to the team prior to kick-off. It was a great turnout today and I could hear the crowd. They've turned out all season for us and there are certain games that will stick out in my memory for a long, long time. Such as how the fans came to cheer us on against Millwall and of course the game against Luton Town when we had almost 250 fans at the Crown Meadow. The fans have been amazing this year and it does really matter and make a difference. So hopefully we can continue to raise our profile and get even more fans to the games to cheer our girls on, because they could be the difference come next season when the games are really tight and we need that twelfth player".
