Lowestoft Ladies 5 Leverstock Green 2

Lowestoft Ladies record their seventeenth straight win with a 5-2 league victory over Leverstock Green.

The Lowestoft Town Ladies welcomed Leverstock Green on this occasion to Bernard's Meadow, looking for their seventeenth straight win. With Lowestoft missing a number of regular players and both of their recognised goal keepers, this potentially was where the magnificent run of results might come to an end.

The signs did not look good when inside two minutes Lowestoft went behind for the first time in the league this season when Natasha Thomas, who very kindly agreed to go in goal was deftly lobbed from just inside the penalty area.
It took a while for Lowestoft to regain their composure and slowly the assurance and confidence returned to their play as Jodie Drake, Zoe Cossey and Chloe Hoffman all saw good efforts well saved.
It was leading scorer Hannah Waters who got Lowestoft back on level terms on thirty-one minutes when she drilled her effort into the far right hand corner from just inside the area and was just desserts having seen another good effort well saved only a couple of minutes earlier.
Lowestoft were now in the ascendency but their opponents were also showing they could create good openings and Natasha Thomas had to be alert on more than one occasion from the threat possessed by the pacey Leverstock striker. Both Marcie Prettyman and Megan Cletheroe were also called upon to make two crucial tackles just when it looked like Leverstock might restore their lead. In added on time in the first half Zoe Cossey went on a mazy run for the blues, beating three Leverstock players before beating the keeper with a fiercely hit shot from 12 yards out to give Lowestoft a 2-1 lead at the break.

The second half saw Amber Rowland go in goal and Natasha Thomas restored back to her usual starting position and from then on the half belonged to her, as she scored two goals and also saw several other efforts narrowly fail to find the net. The fifth and final goal for Lowestoft came from another good cross from Natasha Thomas which saw the Leverstock defender turn the ball into her own net. In between Leverstock scored their second goal of the game but it was Lowestoft who ran out 5-2 winners in what was a thoroughly entertaining match played between two very sporting teams.

Player of the Match: Jodie Drake.
Also special mention this week goes to Paige Baker and Molly Sims who have waited patiently for their opportunities and have always shown how well they can do from their limited opportunities so far this season.

On behalf of the whole team, we would like to wish the supporters and also our sponsors, World of Fish, John Waters House Clearance and Your Mortgage Solutions (Gorleston) Ltd a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year and also to thank them for their very kind and generous support of the team.
