AFC Dunstable 1 Lowestoft Ladies 7
Lowestoft Ladies take all three points in an excellent 7-1 win at AFC Dunstable to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
The Lowestoft Ladies travelled to AFC Dunstable on Sunday and were presented with a really good pitch to play on. However, with only thirteen fit players and an average age of just Eighteen years of age, the game was likely to prove a tough test for them. Ultimately though they played their opponents off the park with a very authoritative performance that was full of tenacity, commitment and coupled with some sublime passing and movement.
Two first half goals from Hannah Waters gave Lowestoft the early initiative but just before half time Dunstable reduced the arrears to leave the game finely poised at half time.
The second half saw Lowestoft sweep their opponents aside though with an onslaught of attacking football which yielded a further five goals. Hannah Waters, who was nearly unplayable added a further two goals with two for Natasha Thomas and one for Paige Shorten seeing Lowestoft record a comfortable 7-1 win.
Natasha Thomas assumed the captains role for the day and displayed a great work ethic, while Zoe Cossey was a thorn all afternoon in the side of the Dunstable defence. The hastily put together back four comprising of Marcie Prettyman, Anna Larkins, Georgia Paul and Charnelle Riggall were superb and it was the latter won the Player of the Match award. Special mention this week goes to Jody Wells who went in goal at short notice, doing really well and Chloe Hoffman whose work rate is instrumental in helping the team to turn defence into attack with her winning so much of the ball in midfield.
The Lowestoft Ladies are next in action this coming Sunday, when they're away to Norwich City in the FA Cup with a place in the first round proper for the winners. Norwich City surprisingly lost to MK Dons 12-0 on Sunday but will provide a stern, yet exciting test for the Lowestoft Ladies.
