Long Melford 1 Lowestoft Ladies 6
Lowestoft Ladies progress to the semi-finals of the Suffolk FA Woman's Cup with a convincing 6-1 victory at Long Melford.
The Lowestoft Town Ladies travelled to Long Melford on Sunday for what looked like a tricky match on paper but as it turned out Lowestoft ran out convincing winners to secure their place in the county cup semi final.
Lowestoft were on the front foot from the off and were 2-0 up inside the first ten minutes. The new centre midfield pairing of Broghan Scully and Anna Larkins seized control of the game and created lots of openings for the forward players with their vision and range of passing. Long Melford worked hard to make a contest of it and their star player Jody Sharp scored with a sublime finish to just about keep her team in it. However, Lowestoft had played some really stylish football and were well worth their 4-1 lead at the break with Hannah waters scoring all four of the goals.
The second half saw the game played in monsoon conditions but still Lowestoft showed their technical prowess as they continued to play their usual passing game of football.
Hannah Waters added a fifth on fifty-eight minutes before an own goal made it 6-1 to the blues ten minutes later.
Jody Drake, who was making her debut after an absence of 2 years, had an excellent game and saw two powerfully struck long rang efforts well saved by the Long Melford keeper to deny her a richly deserved goal. Other performances of note were those of Anna Larkins in centre midfield who was imperious, Charnelle Riggall who was superb at left back and once again showed why she is such a player of immense promise and Amy Bell whose communication and distribution were a feature of her game.
Final mentions goes to Kate Pasque who has led the team admirably this season and Paige Shorten, Daniel Burlingham and Bradley Mingay for taking training on Thursday which was greatly appreciated.
