Lowestoft Ladies 7 West Ham United 2
Lowestoft Ladies record an impressive 7-2 home win in pre-season against Premier League side West Ham United Ladies.
The Lowestoft Town Ladies welcomed to the Crown Meadow, Premier League opposition West Ham United ladies on Sunday 27th July 2014.
With pre-season having started well Lowestoft were eagerly awaiting this match and from the kick-off showed intent and desire to impose themselves, taking the game to their more illustrious opponents.
Hannah Waters was twice denied in the opening fifteen minutes and Katherine Huggins saw a good effort hit the inside of the post. The opening goal came from Amber Rowland, who had a tremendous game, came in the eighteenth minute when she rose high in the six yard box to head home from a Natasha Thomas cross.
Hannah Waters who worked tirelessly for the team, deservedly got the second goal for Lowestoft on twenty-seven minutes, before the irrepressible Natasha Thomas added a third ten minutes later to give Lowestoft a deserved 3-0 lead at the interval.
The second half saw Lowestoft make several changes and Lauren Bullard was soon causing the Hammers defence problems on the right wing with her ability to beat players and deliver a good cross. It was from one of these crosses that she found Hannah Waters who controlled the ball superbly before showing great composure with her finishing effort for 4-0.
Lowestoft gifted West Ham an own goal when sloppy play from the back, followed by a sliced clearance beat Amy Bell in goal for 4-1. However, Lowestoft quickly put this behind them when again good work from Lauren Bullard this time picked out Natasha Thomas who made no mistake and fired her effort home for 5-1.
West Ham were not finished with though and reduced the arrears again when an unfortunate fumble from Amy Bell in goal gave the Hammers their second goal to make the score 5-2.
It was Lowestoft who had the final say in the match though, when first a good header from the highly impressive Megan Cletheroe, from a well taken corner by Katherine Huggins restored a four goal advantage for Lowestoft. Then finally the teams youngest player Zoe Cossey cut in from the left before unleashing a fiercely hit shot which beat the West Ham keeper on her near post to register a fantastic 7-2 pre-season friendly win for the Lowestoft Ladies.
It was a highly impressive pre-season performance from Lowestoft who will take great confidence from this display, as they continue their build up towards their first league match away to Peterborough on Sunday 17th August.
The Lowestoft Ladies players and management would like to thank all those supporters who turned out to support the team, as it was a great experience for the team to have the opportunity to play in front of so many fans. Thanks also goes to groundsman David Page who had the Crown Meadow surface looking in fantastic condition.
The team would also like to thank their sponsors, World of Fish for their fantastic and continued support of the team. We are all hugely grateful for the kind generosity from World of Fish and also to John Waters "House Clearance" for very kindly providing the team with sponsorship for their new tracksuits, which is very much appreciated.
