Sam Gaughran has notified the club that he's unable to honour his contract due to an increase in work demands and has therefore left the club

Despite still having a year left on his contract, the defender has seen a change in his demands at work and along with the blues being disappointingly left in the National League North, the travel and commitment required has now become too difficult for him.

In discussions between the player and the club, Gaughran has made it very clear that if the situation were different with his work then he wouldn't have dreamt of leaving the club.

Speaking about his decision, Gaughran said "It's been a tough decision and if things were different I wouldn't have left but with the change in my work circumstances I can no longer commit to what's required in regards to training, playing and the travel. I've loved my time at the club and would like to say a big thank you to all the fans, my team mates and the staff for giving me a great five years at this amazing club. I'm sure the club will continue to go from strength to strength and I will always have an eye on the results every week".

Speaking about the departure, manager Ady Gallagher stated "It's a decision that was unexpected and one that we couldn't have really planned for. However, it's a decision that the club fully understand and we wish him all the best for the future. He's been a great player for the club and has undoubtedly played his part in putting the club where we are now, at our highest ever level of football. He was always a player that showed a fantastic level of commitment on and off the pitch and he will be sorely missed in the squad".
