Lowestoft Town get hit for five, as AFC Sudbury rip the blues defence apart in their final pre-season friendly.

The Crown Meadow faithful welcome back former favourite Jamie Godbold as he brought his AFC Sudbury side for both clubs’ final pre-season friendly. He must have been as surprised as the 199 spectators as his very youthful side ripped the Trawlerboys defence apart in the opening half to run in 5 goals without replay.

It took just a couple of minutes for Sudbury to open the scoring as Chris Henderson was penalised for handball some 20 yards out and Luke Callendar drilled a low direct free kick past the wall and inside the post.
Almost immediately Lowestoft won a corner on the right and from a Ryan Jarvis short corner Adam Smith sent in a teasing cross which visiting keeper Ollie Bowles turned onto the cross bar.
The writing was soon on the wall for Lowestoft again as Jordan Blackwell raced clear behind the Town defence but shot just wide of the post with just Marcus Garnham to beat
Sudbury deservedly doubled their lead in the 8th minute with Wayne Blackman attacking down the right and his cross to the far post was hit on the volley by Blackwell to send the ball screaming past Garnham
Five minutes later Callendar was left unmarked just outside the area to again shoot past Garnham and couldn’t believe his luck as 5 minutes later he was given the chance to score an identical goal to complete his hattrick inside the opening 20 minutes
Lowestoft were finding it difficult to get any rhythm going and rarely threatened the visiting goal although a Scott Mitchell header was not far off target from an Adam Smith cross.
Sudbury added a 5th goal in the 36th minute with a goalmouth nightmare for Garnham. The keeper was distracted as Blackman attempted to get onto the end of an Ollie Berquez cross and the ball eluded everyone to end up just inside the far post.
As the first half came to an end Ryan Jarvis saw his right wing cross clip the bar.

Lowestoft made 4 changes at the start of the second half which tightened up their defence and started to deny the Sudbury forwards the space they were given in the first half.
However Lowestoft’s attack still failed to make any real inroads into the Sudbury defence with the numerous substitutions ensuring there was little fluency in their play.
They did manage a consolation goal in the 78th minute when a deep cross from the left was volleyed home off the post from a narrow angle by Bradley Woods-Garness.

Peterborough United loanee Brad Maslen-Jones must have wondered what he might be letting himself into during the horrific first half defensive show but looked much more comfortable in the second.
