Last week, Sean Galea-Pace caught up with new signing Sam Borrer and got to know the ex-Dereham midfielder.

Having recently signed for Lowestoft, how pleased are you to put pen to paper?
I’m really pleased. I’ve been training over the summer with them so it’s been good for me to get back into football. I had a year out in Australia and I had my knee done last year as well so I had lots going on and it’s just good to get back into playing at a really good club.

Your last club was Dereham two years ago. How was that experience for you?
It was brilliant, really good. I’ve recently moved to Southwold so I couldn’t really commit to going to Dereham and I heard lots of good things about Lowestoft. I know Callum (White), Harry (Barker) and Bammo (Bammant), I’ve played with Bammo for two or three years so I know a few of the lads.

Was it those guys that convinced you to sign for Lowestoft?
And Ady, I was in touch with Ady over the summer. He contacted me when I was in Australia and said “would you be willing to come down, train and get yourself fit?” which has been the hardest thing for me because I had a year out with my knee so I’m just trying to get fit again.

What can Lowestoft fans look forward to seeing from you?
Hopefully when I’m fit, I think I work hard in midfield and I like to score my fair share of goals.

You made your debut against Harrow Borough on Tuesday night. I know you only came on as a substitute, how would you describe your first performance for the club?
I thought I did ok. I gave the ball away a couple of times but I felt I was competitive, worked hard and tried to play to my strengths. There’s more to come and I was playing with a bit of adrenalin because I hadn’t played in so long. I just like enjoying my football and I did enjoy those 45 minutes so it was great.

What are your aims for the rest of the season?

It’s important for me to get fit and then try and push my way into the team. I want to try and play consistently and regularly as well as playing well. As a team, I think we need to keep building and play the way we’ve been training. There’s a good bunch of lads here that have made me feel really welcome and I look forward to playing with them for the rest of the season.

Finally, can you tell Lowestoft fans one interesting fact about yourself?

That’s a hard question. But, I taught and coached in Australia. I’m a P.E teacher by trade. I was also the Captain of the U18 Norfolk side that won the FA Youth Cup in Stoke.
