Lowestoft Town 2-1 Kingstonian

A goal either side of half-time from talismanic striker Jake Reed helped the Trawlerboys collect their third win in four games and move into a season-high thirteenth place.

Lowestoft did almost land a dream start in the match, when Jacek Zielonka was presented with a free-kick opportunity on the three-minute mark. His fantastic effort had Kingstonian goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey beaten but crashed against the crossbar and away to safety. Soon after, Zielonka's corner was met by Sam Borrer in his first start at the Amber Dew Events Stadium and despite making the save, Tolfrey clattered his leg against the post in doing so and had to be treated inside his own net for a few minutes.

After a spell of stalemate with both sides defending well, Harvey Hodd found the ball at his feet six yards out and blazed over the bar. Manager Ady Gallagher later admitted that Harvey 'should have scored' but a penalty awarded in first half injury time ensured Lowestoft would get another chance to make their stamp on the game... Reed stepped up and sent Tolfrey the wrong way from the spot, as the Trawlerboys found themselves in front at the break.

After half-time, Kingstonian began to add more attacking threat but still struggled to break down the potent defensive trio of Harry Barker, Dean Leacock and Travis Cole. A trademark flying save from Ben Dudzinski did help to stop Noel Mbo from equalising and Tom Derry's header rattled the crossbar before that man Reed was in the right place at the right time to tap home an impressive low cross from Zielonka and double Lowestoft's advantage.

The visitors grabbed a goal back late in the match, when Mitchell Gough headed home from the free kick. Pressure was applied in attempt to nick a point but a combination of organisation and desire from Lowestoft's defence ensured that Travis Cole extended his one-hundred percent winning record as captain and Gallagher's side closed out the 2-1 victory.

After the match the manager said: "It wasn't our best performance but I'm struggling to think of the last time we won a game when we haven't been totally at our best. We had enough chances to win the game in the first half but I just thought we were dogged in the second half. When you're six players out, as we are, you've got to be dogged and that's what we've done."

Following Billericay's draw with Brackley in their FA Cup match, Lowestoft's scheduled trip on Tuesday is cancelled and the squad gets a weeks rest before a visit to Merstham on Saturday.

Matthew Reddy.
