Lowestoft Town booked a Suffolk Premier Cup final trip to Portman Road with an emphatic defeat of Haverhill at neutral Sudbury last night.

The Trawlerboys put out their strongest line-up against their Ridgeons League opponents and took little time to establish their superiority.

As early as the fifth minute Haverhill keeper Aaron Benstead was given notice that he was in for a busy night when he was forced into a full stretch save to tip a curling long range effort from Scott Mitchell over the bar.

Lowestoft took the lead in the 20th minute when Andrew Fisk’s header was turned by Matt Nolan into the path of Robert Eagle, who buried a shot from 20 yards.

They doubled their advantage four minutes later when Greg Crane’s long ball from the back sent Chris Henderson through to shoot confidently past the advancing Benstead.

Haverhill put a spirited recovery in the second half without seriously threatening the Lowestoft goal. And the Ryman League Premier side put the tie to bed midway through the half when Henderson’s quickly-taken free-kick sent Mitchell away to set up Nolan for a simple tap in.

Lowestoft will play promotion rivals Bury in the final.
