Lowestoft Town turned on the style to overwhelm a naive and inexperienced Leyton side scoring four unanswered goals in each half. Greg Crane returned to the centre of defence with Matt Halliday rested on the bench.

The omens for a big Lowestoft win were there from the start with Gary Holt and Gary McGee creating an early chance for Matt Nolan whose shot was turned round the post by Leyton keeper Elliot Justham.

Scott Mitchell then played the ball forward to Matt Nolan who flicked it into the path of Andrew Fisk who volleyed across the face of the goal. It seemed juts a matter of time before the Blues would score and the goal duly arrived in the 15th minute Matt Nolan again picked up the loose ball and slipped a perfect pass through to strike partner Gary McGee to sidefoot past the exposed keeper.

Lowestoft added to their lead in the 31st minute with a Jamie Godbold corner headed into the net by the stooping Gary Holt for his first goal for the club. Hardly had the cheers died down when Lowestoft added their 3rd goal 5 minutes later. Adam Smith played Craig Bussens down the left. He pulled the ball back to Gary Holt who chipped the ball over the Leyton rearguard for matt Nolan to volley home.

Two minutes before the break Lowestoft added their 4th with another tremendous volley from Matt Nolan.

Any chance of Leyton reorganising after the break were dashed immediately as Lowestoft added their 5th with 2 minutes of the restart. Neil Plaskett’s long throw was allowed to bounce in the 6 yard box and Andrew Fisk darted in to head home.

A rare Leyton attack saw a free kick played in from the right but Howard Ajoodha had to stretch to send a header from an acute angle over the bar. Neil Plaskett sent Matt Nolan down the right and from his cross Gary McGee scooped the ball high over the bar.

Lowestoft added their 6th goal in the 63rd minute with Matt Nolan played through the inside left channel and his progress was stopped by a handball from Olatunde Bolaji. Matt Nolan stepped up to blast in the spot kick to complete his hattrick.

Nolan was immediately substituted but his replacement Ross King was on the field for only 20 seconds when he added the 7th with a fierce rising drive from the edge of the penalty area.

There was no let up for the visitors as Lowestoft added their 8th goal in the 76th minute with Ross King feeding Jamie Godbold whose shot w3as parried into the path of Gary McGee who scored from close range. McGee was denied his hattrick by an offside decision.

To their credit Leyton kept plugging away and were denied a last minute consolation goal as Andy Reynolds made his only real save of the afternoon to deny substitute Joel Clarke.
