Lowestoft Town FC - Headline -- Town cement top spot

Lowestoft Town cemented their position at the top of the Ryman League with a 2-0 victory over Heybridge Swifts. There was almost a sensational start as the ball fell to Reece Hunn on the left but his volley was saved by Heybridge keeper Ollie Morris-Sanders.

In a lively start Heybridge also went close but from close range Sam Adejokun glanced his header wide. A Jamie Godbold free kick saw a mad scramble in the Heybridge 6 yard box before Ollie Morris-Sanders smothered Dale Cockrill’s shot.

Midway through the first half a nasty clash of heads saw Heybridge’s Ryan Hull stretchered off to be taken to hospital with a head injury. Lowestoft were enjoying more of the possession without looking sharp in front of goal but Matt Nolan was unlucky with a glancing header just off target.

Lowestoft finally took the lead in the 41st minute. Ross King was brought down just outside the area and Adam Smith sent his direct free kick through a gap in the defensive wall and into the net.

Lowestoft continued to dominate possession in the second period but were guilty of some wayward finishing. Ross King and Craig Bussens both saw good chances sail over the bar. Gary McGee’s shot came out off the keeper but Ross King’s instant chip back dropped just wide of the open goal.

Lowestoft finally got their second goal in the 71st minute. Matt Nolan held the ball up well before sending a delightful; pass through the centre of the defence for Craig Bussens to run on to and shoot past Ollie Morris-Sanders. Heybridge had a chance to reduce the arrears when Nicholas Muir fed Sam Adejokun but he stabbed the ball wide of the target.

Heybridge’s woe was compounded when Nicholas Muir was sent off 6 minutes from time for foul and abusive language.
