Lowestoft Town FC - Headline -- Town win 3-0

Lowestoft included new signing Matt Nolan from Conference North side AFC Telford in their starting line up when they entertained Northwood.

After Jamie Godbold had curled a first minute 30 yard effort just wide the early stages looked very even with Northwood holding the ball better than the Blues but neither side really created any clear chances. An Adam Smith free kick was parried by keeper at the foot of the post and Gary McGee sent a header straight at the keeper as Lowestoft looked for a breakthrough. Lowestoft thought they had taken the lead in the 11th minute when Neil Plaskett’s cross from the right seemed to sail straight over keeper Swain under pressure from Matt Nolan but the goal was disallowed for an infringement.

Northwood were very quick up front and a good move orchestrated by Rob Ursell ended with Hugo Figueiredo shooting inches too high from the edge of the penalty area. At this stage Northwood’s Ursell was looking impressive in midfield spraying the ball around well. Lowestoft made the breakthrough in the 39th minutes with Jamie Godbold picking up the ball in midfield, gliding past Seeby before taking a return pass from Richard Woodrow to shoot past Swain.

Lowestoft were close to adding a second in the dying moments of the first half but Matt Nolan’s low strike was held at the foot of the post by Swain.

Northwood started the second half strongly but the Blues defence was looking solid but Page should have done better than send a header from Figueiredo’s cross straight at Andy Reynolds.

The all important second goal arrived for the Blues in the 62nd minute following the best move of the game. Andrew Fisk won the ball in midfield with the ball quickly moved from Jamie Godbold to Reece Hunn and on to the overlapping Adam Smith whose low cross was flicked into the net at the near post by Gary McGee.

With their tails up the Blues added a third 10 minutes later. Andrew Fisk’s shot was deflected out to Jamie Godbold who glided past Meakin and Hewitt before shooting across Swain and inside the far post.

Lowestoft were in total control now and carried the game forward to Northwood but could not add to the score line but finished the game with a very satisfying three goal victory.
