Lowestoft Town FC - Headline -- Town bounce back

Lowestoft Town bounced back from Saturday’s defeat with a comfortable three goal victory away to Cheshunt. Neil Plaskett returned to the Blues defence and Craig Bussens replaced Reece Hunn in the starting line.

Lowestoft won the first corner of the game in the 7th minute but from Jamie Godbold’s flag kick Greg Crane’s header went straight to keeper Pack. Cheshunt should have taken the lead shortly afterwards as Meikle ran clear of the Blues back four but with just Andy Reynolds to beat the home striker shot tamely at the Blues keeper.

Lowestoft began to get on top and Gary McGee played Craig Bussens through but Williams timed his tackle well to thwart the danger. Andrew Fisk then played McGee through but Pack saved with his legs. Meikle again used his pace well but his shot clipped the outside of the post.

Lowestoft took the lead in the 24th minute when a high bouncing ball saw central defender Williams mistime his attempted clearance and McGee pounced to shoot home from 10 yards. The Blues were looking to add to their lead and it took a timely tackle from Salih to stop Ross King converting Neil Plaskett’s pass. Crane then saw his header from Godbold’s corner saved by the diving Pack.

Lowestoft doubled their lead on the stroke of half time. McGee made ground down the left flank and when Pack fumbled his low cross King was on hand to tap into the empty net from close range.

Lowestoft thought they had added a third two minutes after the break with Richard Woodrow reaching the byeline before pulling the ball back for McGee to convert but the referee inexplicably disallowed the goal for an obscure off side decision. Lowestoft continued to press forward and McGee’s first touch and tight turn created an opening but his shot was inches wide.

Crane again moved up for a set piece and his downward header flew up off the ground and just over the bar before Lowestoft sealed their victory with a third goal in the 64th minute. McGee again threatened the Cheshunt goal and as he moved into the area he was tripped by Parry and Woodrow converted the resultant spot kick.

Bussens was brought down 25 yards out but Adam Smith’s direct free kick was turned around the post at full stretch by Pack.
