Lowestoft Town FC - Headline -- Emphatic win for Blues
Lowestoft Town opened their home Ryman League campaign in emphatic style with a superb 5 goal victory over Concord Rangers. Not surprisingly the Blues opted for an unchanged starting line up with Darren Cockrill replacing the unwell Scott Mitchell on the bench.
The opening stages were even with the first goal mouth action seeing Heale force Andy Reynolds into a one handed save. Lowestoft’s first corner saw Jamie Godbold’s flag kick headed onto the roof of the net by Greg Crane. Wignall’s excellent tackle denied Gary McGee from converting Godbold’s low cross before the Blues moved ahead on the half hour. Andrew Fisk and Godbold combined to send Richard Woodrow through to slot the ball past Buckfield in the visitor’s goal.
Within minutes Lyle Taylor made inroads into the Town defence but Crane’s well timed tackle saved the day. Lowestoft doubled their lead 2 minutes before the break. Godbold fed the ball to Reece Hunn who saw his shot parried by Buckfield but the diminutive winger reclaimed the ball and crossed into the middle for Godbold to dive to head home.
Concord came out at the start of the second half looking to get back into the game but the Blues defence stood firm and they killed the game off with a third goal in the 59th minute. Godbold earned a corner on the right and from his flag kick Crane powered a header into the roof of the net.
Almost immediately Reynolds produced a superb save to deny Hazleden from reducing the arrears. Lowestoft by now were in total control and Buckfield excelled with a superb save after Adam Smith and McGee exchanged passes to set up a shooting chance.
Lowestoft added their 4th goal 9 minutes from time with substitute Craig Bussens being brought down just outside the penalty area. Adam Smith stepped up to send a glorious free kick round the wall into the bottom corner of the net.
The icing was put on the cake with a 5th goal in the final minute. A blocked clearance fell to Damian Hilton on the right flank and he took the ball forward before picking out Godbold to rifle the ball into the net for his 2nd of the night.
