For the second time in 5 days Lowestoft Town and Canvey island put on a 5 goal thriller, this time with league points at stake, but it was the Gulls who triumphed this time by the same odd goal of 5 score line.

Dale Cockrill and Joe Francis who had both been injured in the earlier game were missing but Adrian Forbes was able to return to the squad for the first time in 7 weeks.

After falling behind Lubo Guentchev levelled the scores but the Gulls effectively won the points with 2 goals in 3 minutes immediately before the break. The second goal a spectacular overhead shot from outside the penalty area that went in off the underside of the bar.

Despite Lowestoft’s best efforts they could only pull a goal back through Chris Henderson’s header from a Forbes cross. Henderson also hit the bar in the final minute and with both sides having shots cleared off the line and the Gulls squandering 3 gilt edged chances by shooting widely over the bar with only Andy Reynolds to beat there could easily have been a lot more goals in the game.

Lowestoft will be looking to get back to winning ways tomorrow when they entertain Wealdstone at the Meadow, kick off 3.00pm. The Stones are enjoying a good run at the moment which includes an excellent 2-1 F A Trophy victory over Blue Square Bet Conference side Barrow.

The Blues then have a quick return to the road as they travel to Kingstonian on Monday evening, kick off 7.45.

Jack Withington scored a hattrick against his former teammates as the Youth team defeated Cromer Town 7-0 a week ago. Other goals came from Jude Warnes, Shane Smith, Josh knights and Kyle Godbold. Their midweek game aga8nst Kirkley & Pakefield fell foul of the weather. Next Thursday they are away to North Walsham Town Youth.

The Ladies team were without a fixture last week but return to action on Sunday with an away league game against Ransomes Sports.
