The Suffolk Premier Cup Final played on the lush Portman Road pitch was the ideal setting for the Trawlerboys to put on a dominant display to outplay Bury Town and record a handsome 4-2 victory.
After a shaky opening 10 minutes the Town took control and moved a goal ahead when Michael Frew’s diving header deflecting off both Marcus Garnham and Sam Nunn to find the back of the net.
A Bury equaliser did not alter the course of the game with the highly impressive Dale Cockrill restoring the Blues lead at the end of a move which would have graced any occasion.
Chris Henderson cemented his place at the top of the Town’s goal scoring charts with 2 second half goals against his former team mates before Bury cut the arrears with a last minute penalty.
Last Saturday evening was to be the club’s Presentation Night and what started out as one of the best evenings with a packed Social Club being entertained by magician Mike Rose and live music by Glam Ex.
However one of the successful Ladies side was taken ill – not drink related it should be stressed – and an anxious wait of over an hour for the ambulance to turn up put a damper on proceedings. Thankfully she is now back at home and recovering with all at the club sending her their best wishes.
It seemed inappropriate to proceed with the presentations after the ambulance departed and these will now be made at a later date.
With all but 6 of the Blues squad now out of contract the Blues management team have acted quickly and on Tuesday evening Stuart Ainsley, Dale Cockrill, Greg Crane, Robert Eagle, Joe Francis and Adam Smith all signed new long term contracts to join Joe Clark, Chris Henderson, Jake Jessup, Erkan Okay, Andy Reynolds and Nathan Stone who are still under contract. Negotiations are still ongoing with the others.
