After a goalless first 90 minutes the blues fell behind in controversial manner as Hornchurch exploited the space down their right left by Adam Smith lying prostrate on the halfway line with a suspected broken jaw.
Lowestoft levelled the scores with another ice cool penalty conversion by Dean Sinclair. The second period of extra time saw the Blues so dominant, hitting the woodwork twice and seeing the home keeper pull of a remarkable save before being hit by that last minute sucker punch.
That defeat left the Trawlerboys with one last chance of silverware as they faced Bury Town yesterday (Thursday) in the Suffolk Premier Cup final at Portman Road. The legacy of Monday’s defeat saw Andrew Fisk, Sam Gaughran and Adam Smith all ruled out with injury and Nathan Stone and Iavor Guentchev ineligible selection options were limited for the team management.
The Ladies side completed a league and cup double with a 6-1 victory over a gallant Bury Town Ladies side who had taken an early lead. The Town girls though produced some excellent attacking football to hit back with 6 goals of their own. Natasha Thomas hit a brace with the others coming from Clieo Stephenson, Broghan Scully, Carly Rivett and Lauren Goulder.
The Youth team kept their season alive also coming from behind to defeat Leiston 3-1 in the Eastern Junior Cup. Falling behind early in the first half the Young Blues hit back in the later stages as their superior fitness paid dividends. Shane Smith headed the equaliser with Jerry Dasaolu putting them ahead and Kyle Godbold putting the icing on the cake. They now await the winners between Brentwood and Hadleigh United in the semi finals.
