Getting to know... Cion Wren

1 week ago By Sean Galea-Pace

Three weeks ago, Sean Galea-Pace met with Cion Wren over a Costa and got to know Lowestoft Town’s first recruit from the new Scholarship Programme.

You’re the first youth player to come through the development squad for a few years, how proud does that make you feel?
I was delighted to make my debut. It was a dream because I’ve supported the club for a long time and to make my debut this early on was great for me and my development.

How did you feel when Ady called you up for the first time and said that you were going to be in the match-day squad?
To be honest, I was quite nervous because I haven’t actually played men’s football before but as soon as I met all the lads and got in with them, they welcomed me into the squad and I was fine after that.

How did you feel that first time coming on as a substitute?
I was really pleased to get onto the pitch and get some minutes at that level. It was a great feeling coming off the pitch as well, knowing that I’ve made my debut this early on. It’s exceeded my goal already this season to get in the first-team and get some minutes.

What are your individual aims for the rest of the season?
My plan now is to keep improving with the Scholarship U19 team, to try and get as many appearances as I can with them and just keep training with the first-team to try and break into the team a bit more and see where I end up at the end of the season.

How have the players been with you since you first joined up with them?
They’ve been great. A few of them joined at the same time as me and I’ve been on the bench with a few of them so they’ve been great with speaking to me and getting me involved with everything. They’ve taken a real interest so that’s been brilliant.

What do you feel your best attributes are that you bring to Lowestoft Town?

I really like to get forward with the ball, I like the ball at my feet and taking it past players. I like to think I can score goals as well!

Finally… can you tell Lowestoft fans one interesting fact about yourself?
I like to celebrate with a knee-slide at the corner of the pitch!
