Everyone put in a shift, says Gallagher

One of our most accomplished performances considering everything that had gone before, was the view of Ady Gallagher after his sides Colwyn Bay win.

Lowestoft Town could have been forgiven for turning up to the game and not laying everything on the line. However, that's not the Lowestoft way and a delighted Ady Gallagher chatted with me after the win to look back on the performance and reflect on the season.

It was the second longest journey of the season to the outreaches of Wales and a really good performance from the side; you must be delighted?
"It was a very, very good performance from us today. We came here knowing the position they were in and knew we were going to get a tough test today. So to travel down leaving at 5:45am this morning and on the back of playing 120 minutes on Wednesday, to put that performance in was different class. In many ways and I told the players this, it was probably our most accomplished and rewarding performance of the season away from home. I felt we were decent in the first half and were organised but maybe we could have been a little bit more bolder with our play going forward.
I felt we did that in the second half and that was the challenge we put down to the players at half time, to try and play a bit further up the pitch and to try and press their backline a bit more and I felt we did really well in doing that. The goal was absolutely outstanding, a real team goal and on the back of everything else it was terrific today and I'm very pleased and proud".

It was a great performance from front to back and at times their number seven (Anoruo) was a handful for the defence but we defended well didn't we?
"He caused us problems all game to be fair as he's a lively centre forward and someone who had pace and got between the players. He has a low centre of gravity and with him up against our two big central defenders he was difficult to defend against but I felt the boys did well against him. As a threat I felt they became less effective second half and the only problems were caused as a result of us given the ball away on the odd occasion. I was really pleased with our transitions in play, with us defending, winning the ball and then breaking out in a game like this at the end of the season was first class".

It could have been so easy for the team to come here knowing their safe and not really worrying about the game or trying but it wasn't like that at all was it?
"People who know me and people who know Mick, Fleming, Gleeson and these boys, know that they never give away anything for free. Nobody gives us anything and in the situation and at this stage of the season we could have just turned up but I think it's the wrong way to do things, as you work hard all season and there are things that we still want to achieve. We can use these games to improve our play and to be better than we have been and we will keep encouraging the lads to try and do that. Performances like this are great because the performance was about us and how we attacked the game and the attitude has been first class from the boys. Bammant played 120 minutes the other night and he's then gone and put in a massive shift again today, playing wide and working right to the end. Eagle was exceptional today also but there were just so many great performances throughout the side. Our centre halves were magnificent and I felt both of our full backs really got forward in the second half and joined in. Reed was exceptional, particularly in the first half and in midfield Lee Smith in particularly put in a very, very good performance throughout the whole game, while Okay kept things tight for us. Literally everyone put in a shift today and it was a fantastic and well earned three points".

Just the one game remaining now but looking back on the season and achieving safety while also adding the Suffolk Premier Cup to it; you must be thrilled with that?
"In many respects this season has probably been one of our greatest achievements. To consolidate our position at this level and to add a bit of silverware to the cabinet at the end of the season and to finish the season twelve games unbeaten so far is an incredible achievement at this level of football. It shows that we've started to develop a bit and there's things even from today's game that we're looking at and we know we can get better at. We can probably be a bit more fitter than we are and we know we can play more football and you've got to be really fit to be able to play the type of football that we want to play. So there's a lot to look forward to and I'm really, really pleased today".

You can catch the blues in their last game of the season this Saturday against title chasing Barrow at the Crown Meadow. A game which will also be the farewell of Mr Lowestoft himself, the legendary Micky Chapman.
